Can not find any info on side cover torque settings 18V. Any help out there. Have new rubber gaskets to install along with head swap.

I do believe 6lb is correct but mine are tighter than that and I'll bet many other's are as well !!!
I would make them as tight as can be without deforming the gasket OR the side cover. There's a fine line involved here.
RS
I thought it was 5lbs, but that is close to 6, and still insufficient IMHO. I tightened mine in place after they leaked severely at 5 lbs.
just enough or very little. over that, you tweak the covers and they leak. not even a good hard Unnngh! on the wrench.
a torque wrench is useless for this,. can't even register (and it it could, it is unlikely to be accurate within 50%) it unless you have a 1/4 inch drive and are reading inch-pounds.
I think we all know how to make sure there is never another leak :-)

just picked up a caulking gun tube of "Right Stuff" gasket sealer today, will that work???
I torqued mine down more than 5lbs and used some Permatex (grey rtv I think). I was pretty smug thinking I got away with overtorquing until I pulled the engine last weekend and saw that the rear had been leaking pretty good. Not too much oil on my driveway. I guess I've been distributing it evenly around the roads of Southern Ontario.
Basil's plate is going on this winter. I don't think anything but a solid plate would give me much peace of mind over that horrible factory design.
