How many places is the VIN located on a B? One pop riveted on the dash, any other places?

Not on all years -- my '69 doesn't have it there. I have one tag on the dash and one on the rf inner fender.

According to Clausager's Original MGB, North American Cars had the door jamb plate from September 1969, The dashboard plate was on North American car beginning in January 1, 1969.

On the 1975 B one is on the dash and one is on the driver's door jamb.
There must be one on the chassis that is stamped or in some way permanent.

Jim - I figured you were looking for a different answer than the door jamb. After all you see that every time you get in.

p 121 of Clausager says: "There remains the vexed question of whether the car number was actually stamped into the body structure. Theis was not a legal requirement in the UK until almost the end of MGB production. MGB cars for the USA (and Canada?) had the car number stamped inside the front right-hand side member in the engine compartment just behind the front engine mount, adjacent to the starter motor. The stamped in number is not found on the very first US export cars but seems to have been introduced quite early in the production run. The number is stamped in a similar location on North American MGCs."

It goes on to say, "At least some cars had the number stamped in the floor pan in front of the right-hand seat, although this may only have been introduced in 1967..."

I've never looked for the VINs on the inside of the frame rail or floor pan. I'll have to check that out sometime.

If mine ever had one there, the tinworm ate it....

Jim - Just for kicks I looked on my '73 and '74. Both of them have the VIN stamped on the floor pan adjacent to the tranny tunnel and inline/ahead of the floor mat snaps. I'll leave it to someone who has an engine out to confirm the stamp on the inner frame rail.
