I finally settled with AllState today after a little disagreement regarding the value of my 80B that was totaled due to an engine fire.
Last weekend my friend and fellow MG Club member (Chuck Methven) looked at several cars and were very disappointed at the quality of vehicles available and the outrageous prices they were wanting for their POS.
I jokingly kept hounding Chuck to just sell me his beautiful 80B. Sunday night, i received a call from Chuck telling me that if I really wanted his B, she was mine. Apparently, Chuck feels that I would take care of his baby as he is finally ready to move on to something else.
I could not sleep at all Sunday night.
Today, I received my settlement from AllState and was able to pick up the car from Chuck and bring her to her new home. What a drive. Chuck had already had the chrome bumper conversion done, new paint, refreshed engine, rebuilt head, upgraded alternator, shocks, water pump, headlight relays, upgraded fuse panel, brakes, you name it he did it.
Thanks again Chuck for believing in me. I will take care of your baby.

It's missing the rheostat. Deal breaker.
Really, very nice looking car.
Hey Dave beautiful car. Nothing like the suttle power of suggestion to make it happen. I wanted to ask you about the 80B. I saw one picture and it didn't look that bad, just a little black on the hood and fender on the carb side. I'm sure it would need a new wiring harness amoung other things. How bad was the body?
Beautiful car Dave, I really like the black with tan interior.
Dave, We've talked plenty about this and you really did good. Now your job is to make sure Chuck stays involved here - he's one of the good guys :) Basil
Talk about making lemonade out of lemons. Congrats on a sweet ride.
Dave stopped by my place tonight to show me his new ride and I have to tell you all, the pics do not do this car justice. The paint is like a mirror. And as for the rheostat, that is where the choke is for the HS4's. Also, the car has the VTO wheels. What a score.
What is Chuckles going to do for a toy now?

Yes, Chuck, are you going to buy another MG.
Dave are you going to be attending the http://vintagemotoring.net holiday runs in Chuck's place?
It really pleases me to see Dave soooooooo very happy with his purchase!! I must say that I will miss my little black gem but the timing was right for the sale and since I'm the one that sold Dave the CAT that burned up his other car I felt obligated LOL!! I know that Dave will take very good care of her and enjoy her as much as I have. Thanks to everyone here that helped me along the way with the restoration. I'll still be lurking in the shadows and who knows I may just find myself another LBC!!
Tanny....not sure what my next move is. I hate to say this but I've been considering a early 90's Corvette. For now I'll bank the cash and have fun driving my MCS. You guys will still let me come on the runs in my modern Mini Cooper won't ya?? It's almost British! How's that GT coming along?

I'm curious too. Was it the carb driping on the converter that caused the fire? Congrats on your deal but sad to see another bite the dust.
From White to Black...... Nice!
Congrats on your new car!!!!!
Tanny, just remind me about them and I will do my best to make it.
Buying that today Tony. Wondering where to mount it, but that conversation will probably set off a fire storm if I ask it in the forum.
Hey Dave,
I just noticed from the pics that the side marker lights were deleted..... What's the dog going to chew now?
I am happy for you Dave. Glad you didn't go for that TR6 you looked at. See you on Saturday.
CHUCK! You will always be included in our runs. Destination: Julian.
The GT is coming slowly. Have to finish the Z, then Jan's Lemans.
Mike
Love the part about "not being able to sleep". Like a kid on Christmas eve! Too funny... Glad things worked out for you Dave.
