I have been looking around and was wondering what every one gets as far as mpg. I have seen numbers anywere from 20 -39 what is the real number?

I get around 23-27 MPG in my 1500 w/ twin 1 -1/2" SUs. Of course, I realize this is of limited value to you, as we have different drive trains.

Not to pick a fight, but what do you mean by the "real number?" MPG will vary greatly by driving style, engine tune and modifications (especially mixture setting), wear, tire inflation, tire diameter, altitude, temperature, loads carried, even the presence or absence of ethanol in the fuel used. As they say, "YMMV."

I generally get 30-34 mpg when driving normally and outside the city. My mpg can drop to mid-20's if I do a lot of city and stop'n'go driving on a particular tank of fuel. I have a 1275 stock drivetrain and am running 165/13 tires--30 psi rear, 28 psi front.

Got ya--a real-world average. I'd be interested in hearing from the 1500 drivers out there on this.

You don't know how bad I wish I could give you an answer to this one. The truck that towed mine back got about 17 I think.. As I remember the zenith was designed for better economy and emissions, not sure how much it would affect the 1500's MPG though.

I have a 1500 with a Weber. I get 24-26 MPG. I have done everything to improve that but to no avail. I drive 100 miles per day, mostly 2-lane, pretty flat land mostly. I drive at about 63 mph, steady. I hear that is normal and I shouldn't expect much more. I asked the same question about 2 weeks ago on this site. These old carburated engines just don't do that well at the gas pump.

I'll average 26 most of the time. Running stock ZS carb with points type distribuor.

Isn't a bit odd that Jere's weber, my SUs and Dave's Zenith all get around the 25-ish range? (After I went on and on about variation, too! goes to show you). Where are the 1275 owners?

1275 owner! I consistenly get around 28mpg, just in the midst of doing a 5 speed conversion so i'm sure those numbers will go up a bit.

Being a small engine whose "cruising" RPM is quite high, dont expect econo car gas mileage.

Alos note that through its lifespan, the Spridget had several rear end ratios fitted as stock, and lots more available, all the way to 5.12:1 (from a Morris in-town delivery van).

For best acceleration (and worst gas mileage) use a 4.55:1.

For a good balance, try the 4.22.

For lower crusing RPMs & better gas mileage but slower accel, go with the 3.90.

With 1380cc and the Rivergate 5 speed, we're going to try the 4.22 first.

Notre also that changing the tire circumference produces the same advantages/disadvantages as changing the rear gear ratio, and, its a lot less work!
I'm going with a 175/70x13, if it'll fit in the stock fenderwells.

I got 192 miles out of my first tank of gas. It was a good news bad news thing.Bad news: It was 192.5 miles to the gas station. good news: Last .5 mile was down hill. Next priority fuel gauge!

Kuz1 what size is the midget tank? I don't have my handbook handy.

Well, I'm a 1275 owner, with a Weber DGV. I get 25mpg in the city on very short trips (3.5 miles to work, barely has time to warm up). I get 34-36mpg on the highway doing 65-70mph.

Isn't the tank size 7.2 US gallons? My manual says 6 Imperial gallons, which would be 7.2 US.

I just calculated mine. It was 24.2 mpg. I wish it was more! I am going to play with some settings and try to increase it more... The good thing is that it doesnt require premium like my daily driver!
