I got a used compressor... great deal, but may not be as great as I thought. It's the type with a valve plate & disc valves. Exhaust valve on the high pressure cylinder has crud baked. I've been able to clean some/most, but I'd like to get it all off & want to find something that'll disolve what's left so I can get it out from between the discs (if there's any there) before I put it back together. Any ideas?

(Note, I have a small blast cabinet & glass bead so my first thought was to media blast the plate... then I remembered my compressor is taken apart -- :) ).

You might try oven cleaner. I've used it a lot on engine parts.

Rob, i not too clear on the circumstances, do you have the compressor apart and the valve out? perhaps carb cleaner will soften the crud. if you have the valve out, glass bead it!.
hope to see you in Wisc.

Hi Kelly, yes, compressor is apart & glass bead was my first thought... 'till i remembered i can't run my blaser w/o my compressor. I have some carb cleaner; think i'll try that.

Looking forward to seeing you @ Wisconson as well. Car may not be pretty yet, but it should be on the road by then (if I don't have too many set backs like this one).

Mean Green is the best degreaser on the market. You buy it next to windex in the stores.

Oven cleaner does wonders on thick, baked on burned grease and carbon. Stuff like you'd find inside an old cylinder head. It may be your hot ticket. Otherwise a good scraper, brake cleaner, Simple Green, carb soak, kerosene, etc...
