I'm taking apart an engine from a 77 roadster that has a rod through the side of the block . I thought I would keep the head and distributor but I was wondering if there are any internal parts worth saving .

Thanks Brian

All of the hardware, and especially mounting brackets are nice to have. The motor mounts on RB cars are known to crack, so if those are good they are definitely worth saving. To some of us, it is nice to have spare front pulleys, front and rear engine plates, front cover, and etc.

Definately the front pully = $160 from moss!!

is the crank toast?

(probably so..but worth investigating if it can be turned not more than 20 to clean up)

plus what others have said, the 3(?) usable rods(maybe you id them as #1, 2, 3 because sometimes it is critical...not sure about B but listing it is potentially useful). oil pump (new innards available). main caps. things like that. distributor/oil pump drive shaft AND retainer.

if you have the space, ebay might make you a hundred bucks or so. realize that it will cost you about 10-12% to sell on ebay and take paypal.

pushrods, waterpump, cover plates, pulleys, plus what others have said - basically, anything you see in a catalog will have some value to someone looking at having to buy a new part. FWIW even the block has some value to a metal recycler. If you have space and can unbolt it - save it for someone who will need it.

If the crank's not broken, keep it. Keep the stuff other have said plus the camshaft, oil pan, unbent pushrods... It might be easier to say you should toss the block, the timing chain, all the seals and gaskets, the lifters, the pistons and rings, and keep the rest :)

Everything! Recycle the block.

Keep the oil pan. They are NA in Moss and other catelogs.
John Moore and I have both experienced oil pan issues in the past.

Keep the top loading oil filter bracket unless you have already given it away.

General rule of thumb. With a B throw nothing away. Someone somewhere will always need a part.
I tell people that the MG is the only car in the world that requires a two car garage. One side for the car, the other for the U-haul trailer full of parts.

Even though the block has a hole in it, cast iron, vs regular steel - brings a high price with the scrap yards - I suggest selling the ruined block as scrap.

then after all that stuff has been salvaged, dip the block and clean it off, run a set of wires through that hole in the side and make it into a table with a reading light and a tempered glass tray. Put in your special place and they will talk about it forever. I have seen them as coffee tables also.

If you have a bad piston still around after this, give it to a smoker MG friend. My dad used one holed on the side!! from his 65 Chevy Impala for an ashtray for years. A conversation starter and a reminder to him that even the factory can forget to put rings on a piston.

Thanks to everyone for your advice. I like the coffee table idea!!
