Hello, I'm new here. I used to be a Ford Mustang guy. I just sold my two 1966 coupes in order to pay college tuition.

Now I'm looking at buying something a little bit more affordable to keep my gearhead occupied.

I've found a 1970 MGB and a GT6+ project for sale locally. I also found a 1965 Midget for sale on the other side of the state. All of them are projects but mostly complete, rust damage is repairable to very little.

Midget $185
MGB $400
GT6+ $550

I'm most interested in the MGB. Here are some photos

Are these prices fair?

Thanks
-Matt

even without pics , I think yes is a safe answer. im sure you could probably part out either mg and not lose money

I would drag that MG home in a New York minute for $400. Of course I am one sick, addicted, bargain hunting, scrounge. :)

I'd get a good luck underneath and inside the engine bay, also the floorpans. Looks like it may be hosting lots of critters too.

Not to speak hearesy but you might want to check into the GT 6. With relatively few made you could be looking at something of value...even parting it out if its too far gone...

Almost any amount of olde english sheetmetal for those prices is going to be worth it. As folks said, you could probably part rusting hulks out and make your money back. If you can actually make them run then you're way ahead of the game!

Sounds like a deal to me, Id get the MGB and the GT6, evaluate the work after purchase, and if you can do both do it! If not, with better advertising, photos, desciption, you could make a good profit on either one to fund the other

I agree. More work than I'd want to take on, but for $400???? If you're game, go for it! Might even get it for less.

What do you have to loose for $400

I will probably be attacked as a heretic here for saying it, but the GT6+ is a much rarer beast than either an MGB or a Midget so I would pounce on that, if only to part it out. Rarity breeds higher prices, for cars and parts.

I bought a '68 MGB GT for $1 on ebay, but I've been accused of having "vision". I think what he really meant was visions, or hallucinacions, but I still have the GT. I'd buy any or all three of those if possible, you can't lose. I was a big Mustang nut myself until the prices got stupid. Gone in 60 seconds ruined it for all of us.

Go for it!!

Thanks for the input. I'll see if I can get the MGB then. He told me he's taking the 'best offer' and right now that's $300. I hope that if I walk in there and tell him I'll take it for $400 if he sells it to me right then it'll work.

I will be sure to check for rust first. I've learned a lot from my experience with the mustangs. Both of them turned out to be bad moves to purchase, but one of them I repaired it's major flaw (front clip pop-riveted to unibody) and then it was one hell of a solid car after that.

I'm not sure I can afford to purchase the GT6 as well. It does have rust issues, and he said it's not running but "it would take a little work" and then it would be running again. Another problem is that he doesn't have a title. Said he bought the car from arizona and the owner never got around to sending the title. He also said he would forward the title if he ever got it, but I've learned from experience that titles aren't fun to mess with.

My cousin had a midget a few years back, I think it was a late 70s one. It was the first year of the rubber bumper, that much I remember. He let me drive it and it was a blast, although I would rather build something that I'm not going to be scared for my life to drive everyday.

Thanks
-Matt

I'd not hesitate on that gt-6 if it has any usable parts on it. Even if it is a basket case there aren't very many of them around and that makes them more valuable than a B.
I'd pass on the Midget unless you have a great love for those cars. They are nice but your best values would be the GT-6 and the B

You're a lucky guy.
If you've got room to house them, get the 'B and the GT-6. With patience, you can overcome the title problem.
I love my '70B (and covet GT-6's... shh... don't tell anyone)

Well I really don't like the looks of it, even if it is rare. I guess it might grow on me.

If I bought two cars, though, I'd have to sell one of them in a short period of time. I don't have enough money to own two. So the only reason I would buy the GT6 would be to flip it for a profit.

Here's pics of the GT6+

His price is 550 firm.

Seller's description

There is rust in battery tray and in floor underneath it. The sill on pass side of car will need to be replaced. there is some bondo in back and a little in the nose. all other panels seem to be ok. the seats and dash will need to be redone as well as the hydraulics. The latch for the rear hatch needs to be repaired as well. car is titled in az and the previous owner has yet to send it. so as for now no title but i do have a bill of sale from previous owner. When and if i do get the title i will send it to the cars new owner, I am moving to AZ in about four weeks and hope to have it sold by then. I allready have two spitfires to try to get down there. I think the car is well worth the money in just parts alone.

Hey Matt,

Not intending to talk you out of any of those cars, but experts I believe say when buying an MG buy the best car you can afford to buy and rust is the no. 1 concern. I think you can go over $5K to bring the B up to snuff without paint pretty easily. Rust+trans+engine+interior+carb+electronics+brakes+what else=$$ even doing your own work.

That said, $400 for the B is fair enough and you've got to start somewhere. I agree with folks who said you could part it out and recover investment and maybe then some. Personally I'm not a Triumph fan, but I agree it's the rarest...

Good luck with whatever car project you choose.
