I got one of the Eastwood powder coating kits & it is GREAT. It is about as easy as can be...Just for the hell of it I did a Rostyle in single stage chrome, I may add the black later.

I also did my nieces legs on her antique leg tub in mirror black.

Monte,
I am glad you finsihed that last sentence as I was trying to image why your niece would want her legs poweder coated.

What's the price of the kit?

Lee, I bought the 1 step up kit from Eastwood, it was about $130.00. I had a buddy who had a electric oven that was going to get trashed. The only other expense was a laser temp. gauge, that will tell you the temp. of the part not the temp. of the oven. Once you get the part to 400 degrees F time it for 20mins. & it is ready to go

I'm curious to know if you compared the Eastwood setup with the offering from Caswell? Was the kit cheaper? How 'bout the powder?

That wheel will look GREAT if you paint the black sections. I'll take five of 'em! :D

Derek, I just saw it on the Eastwood web site & decided to get it. I looked at Caswell after I bought thhe one from Eastwood, but never compared the 2. The powders that I got from Eastwood seem to go a LONG way. An 8 ounce powder container will do a suprising amount of parts.

Joe, that is an old wheel I had laying around & figured I would use it as practice. I need to get some more high heat tape & coat the black. Makes a good decoration if nothing else.

I've always just farmed out powder coating to the pros, but I keep seeing people doing themselves and getting great results, I've got the bug to give it a try myself. An old oven is easy enough to come by, my question is more along the lines of how you put it in the oven did you modify the oven so without the racks you can hang a piece, or do you just rack the piece and I'm gussing just racking the piece would scrafice the piece's finish on the side the piece is on the rack. Any of you guys want to share with pictures what you did to set up a regular oven for powder coating?

Hap, I built a frame out of aluminum angle and all-thread that 'just' fits in the oven. I hang the parts on it, shoot them with the powder and slide the whole thing into the oven.

Hap, I have a similar set up to Ken's. If you do have a piece that just cannot be hung I try & put what is going to be the back on the rack. I have not tried it but a friend who has more experience than me with powder coating told me that a thick piece of teflon can be used to lay the cured side down. Just coat one side & lay that side down & do the other. I have used some of those file cabinet racks for hanging folders on and wired expanded metal to them. The are adjustable & the expanded metal gives you plenty of holes to utilize for wire hanging. Like Ken said coat the piece & put the whole rack in.

I have the one from Craftsman and love it. Got lucky and found an oven for $5 at an auction.
