I think this is the reverse main shaft gear (circled), but I can't seem to find it on Moss or VB. I also need the smaller one on the shaft just below it (arrow). They both have their teeth ground down.
I think it's 8a here http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29288, but it says N/A and the other one isn't labeled.

Don you are better of getting a rebuilt or a good used gear box versus buying new gears as they are pretty darn expensive for one gear! Plenty I folks on this site that sell used ones that are tested...

I was thinking that's the route I may have to take. I'll look around and see if I can find one.

I got a really nice used one that was inspected by Ted over at TSI Imports and he actually walked me through the gears to sho me what I needed to see when inspecting...really nice guy. I paid him a whooping $250 for that one and thats a lot cheaper then paying over $300 for one gear! Post that you want an inpsected used 1500 gearbox in the trader....these are much easier to find IMHO so you should get one.

Ja, get a used box. If you have room, save the old for parts... someone will thank you someday!

That's the reverse idler gear, it moves along the reverse shaft on a busing to change the direction.

If its monkey'd up your laygear may be too.

If you are going to replace it you have to count the teeth on it, later boxes used a different laygear and reverse idler gear.

You can also try quantum mechanics in CT. They repair Triumph gearboxes, that's what we have in our RB Midgets.
