Just got the engine running after about a year and it is burning alot of oil. It is also coming out the tail pipe and under the car. Is it a valve or a stuck ring? It did not do this before.

It could be a stuck ring or a loose manifold bolt and valve guides or any one of many not to m ention bad pan gasket, bad head gasket, bad valve tappet gasket.

Please clarify. What's coming out of the tailpipe? Oil? Or smoke.

Where is the oil leaking from at the engine?

Its oil and smoke coming out the tailpipe. Really cannot see a leak except near or around the exhaust manifold.

Thanks Gil,

It may be the manifold bolt as I just changed to weber carb and manifold. Nothing else has changed, although I have not started the engine in a year.

Before I start tearing the engine down I am going with the manifold bolts being loose as I had to loosen them when changing the intake manifold. There is oil running down the outside of the engine under the intake manifold. Will let you know what happens.

I have experience this and if it gets in the exaust manifold it will smoke due to hot manifold maybe even under the bonnet.

I thought those were studs holding on the manifolds. They did not appear to be loose when I changed intake manifolds.

A couple if not all encroach on the engine oil galley and the threads need loctite thread sealer on them or they may leak oil. Also if you didnt you should replace the manifold gasket.

Tappet cover gaskets? Certainly worth inspecting and replacing with the manifolds off.
