I currently have a Carter AFB 400 carb on a stock Buick 215 intake manifold. Would this (Ebay) intake be preferrable.

I believe that the Offy is taller.

A hair taller, but breathes a lot better than the stock unit. The runners and ports are bigger, so if you have Rover heads, it'll be a better match. Good stuff! I believe its generally considered the best aftermarket intake for conversions.

Is the adapter plate needed? How thick is it?

The Edelbrock Performer really works but too tall. So you are probably right Jeff, this one may be the best..."for conversions" Anyone ever use a Performer with an MGC hood? I was thinking the buldge would provide enough clearance.

I hope to use the MGC hood myself. Think they have a great look with the flared fenders. Not sure on the adapter plate.

Looks like there's going to be a bidding war. Is anyone here bidding against me I, don't want to run this up.

THere's always going to be someone bidding against you - its an auction! Almost the whole world is on the internet.

Spoke with D&D, and they recommend the OFFY intake with the Performer Carb, does require adapter plate, not sure that the Holly plate would work, doubtful. Already got a decent carb, so I'll take a shot at the intake and see what happens. D&D says the OFFY height increase is .020 over the stock Buick 215 intake.

An MGC hood should clear the Performer intake and carb. With the scoop I put on my car, which only sits an inch or so above the hood line, the only thing above the hood is the hold-down nut for the air cleaner. This is using stock RB mounts and a 1.5" drop-base filter assembly, K&N filter with "Extreme" top (which is a bit taller as well).

Brian, FYI there are 2 different types of Offenhauser manifolds, the Dual Port (Part #7001), and the older single plane 360 degree Equa Flow (Part #5165). I have read that the newer Dual Port is the same height as the stock manifold and the Equa Flow is about 1/2 in taller than stock.
They also have pretty different port configurations, with the Dual Port having the equivalent of two separate intake runners in each port.
