Im having a tough time finding either (3) refills or full blade replacements to fit my Straight Arm wipers. Mine doesn't have the dip at the end of wiper arm like the arms/blades seen in the Moss cat. that I also found at Oreillys Auto. They have them for $6 each but won't fit my straight arms.

I can post a pic later if necessary of the arm end.
WTF?

I bought two sets of the universal cut to length style for my '73. As I recall they were about $4 or $5 per pair. (I have one left over for next time.)

I went to my local AutoZone auto parts store and bought new correct-length wipers and dismantled them to use them as "blade refills" on the wiper blade metal assembly/housing/frames for my '76 Jeep. Basically you just need new rubber and the little metal strips on either side of the rubber (or a one-piece metal "surround") that gives the rubber some support as it's held in the assembly/housing/frame that attaches to the wiper arm. The same thing works fine for any LBC or other "old" car.

Refills for only the rubber part of the wiper used to be very commonly sold, these days they're either uncommon or nonexistent.

Well this is much of the problem. I have tried about 5 retailers on the ride to work and no one has refills anymore. Oreilly's told me that they took theirs off the shelf b/c the sold 49 pairs last 12 mos and 47 pairs were returned. Face it, there are some real mechanically challenged people out there.

I may have to pay $5 per blade (x 3) and remove the rubber wiper and insert into mine.

Ramon, does your arms have the dip at the end of the wiper arm? Mine are straight for some reason.

The wiper arms on my '73 are set at about a 30 (or perhaps a 40) degree angle

Yeah, it's a little silly (cost-wise), but that may be what you have to do. I have some nice-looking (original?) stainless steel wiper frames on my Jeep - just like older MGBs - and I wanted to keep the nice frames even if it meant throwing away new plastic frames just to get the rubber part.

Yeh, that's ok. Im referring to the end of the wiper arm where it attaches to the blade. The Anco blades
I purchsed where made for a arm that had a 1/4 moon dip at the end of the arm. For some reason my arms are
straight with a little notch button and that's it.

I'll try another retailer or two before I go cutting up blades, but that may be what it takes. Hell, I should be able to find two
packs of 16" refills somewhere?

I got a set of three from Northwest Import Parts. They were NOT cheap but they fit great and the company has FAST and excellent on-line service and ship out right away.
I have found that in contrast to some other suppliers such as MOSS their prices are really very good... and I like the company. It's at www.northwestimportparts.com and I think they can help you. They specialize almost entirely in MG parts and accessories. Mine is a 1979 1500, by the way. Helluva machine !

Rich is not kidding when he says NOT cheap. 18.50 x 3 for wipers. That is one ridiculous rip off. I see many of their other parts are decently priced. They should have passed on these at that price to the customer. Simply ridiculous for 55.50 plus shipping for wiper blades! :I3: to NWI for this listing IMO

I believe that I ran into the same price issue. That is why I went to the universal cut to fit style! That was bad enough. I got the first set from Autozone abd the second set that I used half of came from Carquest. If it helps, the Autozone part # was U22R. As you might figure it was much too long, but as it is cut to fit it did not matter.

Yeah.. I thought the wiper refill price was way high, too. They came in individual packages with some "classic part" logo on them. But they did fit well and sharp and saved me a lot of time. I usually go here and there, waste gas and time, eventually mutilate the damn things doing it myself, so... yeah. But the other stuff from NWI has been GOOD, well priced, fast-fast service, usually less than Moss but without as much choice for individual parts, and I'll overlook the stupid wiper prices and still deal with them. I do wish you luck, though. I'll have to upgrade my pers info with a picture of the thing. Also own a Land Rover series 1 Discovery which is mint-mint now, and I love that thing, too. The Midget looks pretty funny next to it in the garage... the top at about the window level of the LR's door-line !

Yeh, I 'm going with refills. I did find 2 types of refills yesterday and am pretty sure one will do the job. I also realized I may have the original blades on the car. They're marked "MADE IN FRANCE". Original possibly? Thanks for the part# Ramon.

Rich, I certainly wasn't knocking you for dishing out the green. I was just slightly aggravated buy NWI's failure to produce a good product at a fair price. And having realized my wiper arms are a bit different than what the Euro dealers believe to be stock on my Midge, coupled with the inability to find refills, I was getting a little pissy about the issue. I bet your MG does look funny sitting next to a 4x4. I sure hope I never get rear ended by one!

Hey... I didn't take it as a knock at all. Hope your efforts work out okay. And BTW I love those "series" of BMW vehicles as well. My Land Rover mechanic has a 7 series which is older that he's restoring and that is one fabo car !! MG parts are at least readily available and most of them have good prices. Good luck with yours ! -Richie
