I just purchased a late model MGB and it has the dreaded wood grain dash appliques. How do I remove them withour destroying the dash? I have considered using a hair dryer to heat the various pieces and see if the glue will soften enough to peel the pieces off. Has anyone done this with success? Help please.

I have used that method to remove many contact cement items including Formica counter tops. One would have to be careful not to overheat the dash material. Have also used lighter fluid to desolve or soften some types of glue. DON'T MIX THE TWO METHODS!!!!
Jim,
I've tried using naptha (which is basically the same as lighter fluid) to remove contact cement items (although not on an MG dash) with some success. Vinyl is a less absorbant than leather so you shouldn't have to worry too much about it being absorbed into the dash. Just be careful how much you use and test an area that is less visible first to see how the applique and dash material will react. Good luck. If you elect to use heat, if there is any "sticky" left over on the dash, naptha is a good material to remove it with. But like David (above) said, don't mix them at the same time!!
