Just wondering, my friends wife says she was amazed that it got the gas mielage that it does and a fill up was $20 (6gal.). Just wondering if you got horrible gas mileage would you still keep your midget?

Yup!
If it got 10 MPG, I wouldn't like stopping every 60 or so miles for fuel, but I would still like it. (tu)
I'm thinking...I'm thinking....:P
On the real, I don't think anyone who owns a classic car (of any kind) would consider selling it solely because of mileage inefficiency. Just ask the guys with the 50s, 60s & 70s guzzlers...they might not like it, but the 'ol girl is taken home every time.
I recall back in my youth when i could fill Dino to the rim for $4.50...repeat that with me. f o u r dollars and f i f t y cents. doesn't seem real now that it's about 22 bucks a pop these days.
my 2 cents
Do we really think 25-28 mpg is good? Maybe for 35-40 year old techonology. Remember the car only weighs maybe 2000 lbs. New technology in this size car is about double the mpg.
Mileage is not the point or reason for owning any old sports car. Or new one for that matter.
BUT-Fill up every 60 miles!!!--FOR SALE:)
It's not MILES per gallon that drives me to keep "Midge", it's SMILES(:D per gallon.
No, I would not have bought it.
I know vintage Mustangs very well, but I did not buy one.
I was looking for a stepping stone to move up to a Spitfire, but the combination of virtues led me to keep it.
The Datsun engine that will be going into it will be modified, but will still get good gas mileage.
My days of driving 200+ miles on a Sunday with a gas guzzler, like my '68 Cougar, are long gone.
I would still have a Midget. There is something very gratifying about driving the smallest vehicle possible. It's been said many times before, the visceral sensation and connection with the road is very difficult to replicate with a larger car. Piloting a car like a Midget gives one of the most pure sensations of driving to be had. It opens up the highway like it was a wide landing strip, and makes one feel part of the country side.
I had a similar feeling with a 71 Super Beetle, and a 79 Spitfire. I didn't feel it quite the same with a 74 MGB.
Id just stop buying underware...that would off set the cost of higher fuel prices
If its okay for britney, then im sure id be justified...
well i got to go pick up the children at the park, wheres my trench coat ???

I once got 98 miles on a tankful. Lot of WOT use and tuning.
I ran out trying to get to a station.
I was shocked. Then I was just amused.
I wish it got 40+ mpg but it is what it is ...more fun than a barrel
of monkeys.
Yee Haa
Still gets better mpg than my other wheels.
When I bought the Midget back in 79, it wasn't even for the fuel economy and it was my daily driver. It's all about the Fun-factor!! Definetly not the most economical car, but certainly the most fun to drive.
Well, now that I have (hopefully) all the little gremlins fix, I am enjoying 27.4 mpg. That is better than the 22 mpg when I bought it 14 months ago. So "you have come a long way baby" but I will tell you, if I were getting 18 mpg, I will still drive it. I love the thought, "how many smiles per gallon" do we enjoy.
I remember back in the 70's stopping to help a corvette driver who had run out of gas. He told me he only got about 7mpg in the Vet. Can you imagine keeping an older Vet fueled up today. I guess that's why they bumped out the charge limit on the pumps. I remember filling the Midget tank for $2 in 1970 during a gas price war. What happen to those? Full service and a gift on a fill up. We still get a gift, but you have to bend over to receive.
I appreciate the mileage, but it wouldn't stop me driving it. Hell, my car is not much better than a modern injected v8 anyway!
