Some are pretty obvious (e.g. pic of your car), but I see some unusual avatars.. Maybe they have a story, joke, point of view..etc behind them. Let's hear it and tell us why did you choose that particular pic as your avatar..

I will start with mine:
It is a picture of Colonel Sir Harold Wilberforce Clifton, a comic character that I read as a kid as part of Tin Tin magazine.
My father always encouraged me to read and he used to buy me the magazine almost every week so I grew addicted to reading Tin Tin and all the character in the magazine. Sir Clifton drives an MG TD, as seen in the pic
Here's a few links:

My daughter, Dorothy, appearing as Nellie Ewell in Tennessee Williams' "Summer and Smoke" at Pace University.
Seven or eight years ago my wife was teaching highschool level Special Education. The school art teacher let her students make plaster face casts, which they then used as molds for fired clay masks. The art teacher had a bunch of old plaster casts of students from previous years, and my wife thought this particular face was interesting so made a mask from it. There were no names on the casts, so this I guess would be called "The Unknown Student". It hangs on the fence in our back yard.
<- This is an old Second World War British Government motivational poster. I like it because it echoes the British sentiment of restraint and persistence in the face of adversity...

Wings and a little cleavage never hurt anyone.........
My 1st new car was a Morgan. (Think my 1st wife left me because I loved that car more than her...2nd wife was okay with it, we've been together 38 years). My avitar was taken on my last pilgrimage to the Morgan factory
My avatar is from the movie To Kill a Mockingbird. I brought it out during one of our second amendment debates. I may go back to my Caddyshack avatar pretty soon. I need to re-up my gold star so I can load more graphics and gif files.
I changed mine MONTHS ago, wondering if I'd get any comments. Not one.
Our pet bulldog a few years ago...Sir Winston Veer
Noted for having one brown eye and one blue eye and was as dumb as he looks :)

I remember when you first started using your current avatar, and was curious about it. It also seems like someone made a comment about you having four attractive daughters, but I don't recall anything else mentioned.
So who are they? A Scottish quartet?
A couple of ladies that lived with me from Brazil had a great time with them.

Hmmm, I never noticed the question before. :-)
They are our daughters (my step-daughters actually). They had the picture made for their mother for Mother's Day a year or so ago. People say it looks like an ad for jeans, or perhaps a poster for a 'girl band'.
I have it up in my office and get questions about it frequently. :-)
Bill I had wondered the same about your avatar but was afraid to ask ;)

Very cute young ladies, Bill!
If I was single and a lot younger............................
My avitar was taken in 2003 on Pikes Peak. A glorious winter day!

Well, it's a great photo! I do specifically remember someone commenting about them being your daughters, but at the time I was unsure and thought that perhaps it was a photo of a popular girl band that I was unfamiliar with...and I didn't want to be un-hip and have to ask!
Casablanca is one of my all-time favorite films, and altho I am a huge fan of Bogie, I have always liked Claude Rains portrayal of Captain Renault. As I have gotten older, there are a good many times when I have found myself identifying with his character's "pragmatism" and perhaps cynical view of the world and humanity. Perhaps not the most flattering avatar to use, but there are days when I feel very much like the photo I've chosen.
Naomi, just ask. It's only me. :-)
The question I get most from the guys in the office is, "is this one single?" as they point to one of them.
Yes, they are all good looking young ladies. And they are all smart and gainfully employed in good jobs.

I saw your picture and just thought you had an unusually good looking crop of daughters. Is there a back-story?

But I thought maybe I didn't want to know --- now that I do though I have to admit they are beautiful and I also thought they were a band :)
From 2007 Marine Corps Birthday Ball,.....one of the very few, very, very few photos with me actually smiling.

Brian, If you ask me I think they are damn good looking girls.
Mine is just my car outside a real old cafe in downtown Waxahachie, Tx
"Blade Runner" is my all time favorite movie and my avatar shows Replicants Roy Batty (aka, Rutger Hauer in real life) and Leon Kowalski (aka, the late Brion James) talking in a scene from the movie.
Mine is from a series of stories from Sport Flying Magazine in the '70s. The pilot was called The Lone Birdman and the plane was called Thunderhawk. He was kind of like the Lone Ranger, mask and all, and he worked secretly for the government.
It's also my idea of the ultimate plane that I'd like to have built. A big powerfull biplane with a Pratt and Whitney 985 on the nose. A plane with the looks of the '30s, with 450 HP and a smoke system, something to tear up the sky with.
Sadly it's only a fantasy.
Mine reflects a moment of great pride - I was firing up the lawn mower a couple springs ago and my son Max went and got his mower and started mimicking everthing I did. Yep, he's gonna be a gearhead!! Just last week Max (now 4) stuck his head in the garage, looked at the shiny roadster and the rough looking gt v8 project, pointed at the v8 and said, "that's mine." That's my boy.
I'm one of those annoying Dad's that thinks the sun rises and sets with my two boys.

Ryan, it's never annoying when people actually have their priorities straight.

1967. Nice clear day start to a great weekend into the mountains of Southern Colorado across Cumbres and La Manga Pass. Started to snow in Chama, New Mexico. By the time I made it off the pass into the San Luis Valley I was driving through 3 inches of heavy snow blowing across the San Juans with the intensity of a blizzard. That's the B I bought new in 1965, sold in 1968, found advertised on e-bay last year in it's near original condition, and got back with a last minute bid. I'm in the process of restoring it now and hope to have it on the road in the spring - just in time for a run across Cumbres and La Manga again.

That's too cool, John. I'd forgotten about that.

Just as Jay said, there's nothing annoying about being proud of your kids at all!!
That's exactly why my avatar is always a photo from Dorothy's latest performance.
Mine is a beautiful fall day, my lovely wife (The Lady Cheryl) and I were out for a drive before I began the arduous task of rebuilding the car. Brooks Imports is the original MG dealership in Lansing. Still in business. Wyatt has a car or two on the showroom. Great place to visit and hang-out.
My avatar rarely lasts for more than a week or two. I typically change out to a photo I find funny...rather than as any representation of me (other than my warped/immature sense of humor).
As you can see...I found a great new one...

Looking at the package makes me wonder what they call this product in Japanese, a "Double Decker"??
The Beverly Hillbillies. I sort of think I’m like the Clampets, I just haven’t struck it rich yet. And, the Clampet’s jalopy was created by George Barris, an awesome car customizer in the Kustom crowd who made a bunch of cars we’ve seen on TV, like the Batmobile, Munster coach, and so on. I'm just a big car freak!

Hear you all the way. Right now, my little one (18 mo old) is imitating a lot of what I’m doing. I have a late 40’s Murray petal car that my Grandparents bought for my dad when he was small which I also used when I was small. I pulled it of storage to fix it up for my little one (starting a tradition I guess) but haven’t had the time yet. He is so drawn to that car it is unbelievable. He already figured out how to sit inside it. Another gearhead in the making? Once it’s fixed up, I’m going to take a pic with him in it and replace my avatar.
Me approaching turn 10A at Road Atlanta (Skip Barber school). Great photo from the track photog.

Me and my little dog Monkey. He made me happy but unfortunately passed away in 2007.

Mahahahaha, that's brilliant!
I'm sure you've been there before, but you might find some good pics at engrish.com ... features some great culture clashes and terrible translations!

A suitable day for giving both cars a wash, last winter

The girls (Rosie & Lulu) about a year and a half back. Here they are yesterday:
Well, I just changed mine-had never thought to do so until reading some of the above. Mt Jefferson in the background.

Mine is a photo of the gas tank on a tribute bike built by Indian Larry in honor of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. When I was a kid I loved the Rat Fink cartoons and as I got older I really like the bikes that the late Indian Larry built, so it is kind of a tribute to both.

ok Bill I seen yours and always wondered " Who are those women?" So who are they.. I like it!
Mine, a shot I took in the Mabalingwe game reserve, thought I'd give you guys a different perspective down a B's bonnet..
Funny thing was this was taken about 20 minutes after we were politely told to put the top up by a game ranger due to the presence of Lions LOL
Just always have liked Paul Newman and especially his role as Cool Hand Luke. I switch sometimes but always come back to this one.
My initials. I had too much time on my hands one day and made a solid model in Solidworks.
My photo that I use when I run real estate ads or create flyers.
Just hairy ole me at work. Picture was actually taken to go on our website. The hardhat I bought on 9-11 after I spent the day going through fire training. The company I worked for would not let me wear it at work because it was not an official Borden's Chemical and Plastics hardhat.
The GEM insignia was designed for me by Kim deBourbon back when GEM Enterprises started making MG stuff instead of being a gunsmith business. It will stick with me until I die
Just the shift knob in my GT, one of a few photos from an art class I took in school.
My son throwing a coin into the Trevi fountain in Rome, during a trip in 2007. I'm not sure when we'll go back but maybe he will some day.
Mine is a picture I took in 1987 of the '65 shell I bought after I wrecked my '67. If you look closely you’ll see my son Ed standing inside, peering over the cowl. Now sometimes I get to drive his GT! When he gets his Magnette on the road I’ll be like a little kid waiting to get a ride!
Mine's the calm between snowstorms we got in December in Vancouver. I like the contrast of my dog making her way along the path with the boat in the background.
Can't let a little thing like snow get in the way of boating on the West Coast.
Mine was taken on the last drive I had in my car before the new owners picked it up a couple of years ago. I've been B'less ever since and continue look for the next project. Still love checking in here and see what's goin' on in the B world. :)
Me, back when there were no gun rights arguments.
Yup, that far back.
Make up your own story and I'll give you the scoop later.
Have some fun at my expense. Give it your best shot.
Someone asked on the Midget forum if anyone knew how to loosen frozen nuts. I could not resist.

Bill, having never expanded your avatar before, I sincerely thought yours was an CD or album cover for the band The Coors. (see below minus the guy.) Your daughters are every bit as attractive!
Mine is a photo taken at Hill Air Force Base last year with a GR4-A Tornado from the RAF that was doing some training with the local boys. Our local Brit car club was invited.
