Okay, you folks have got me thinking again. JDW and pic of his Scamp and van and the earlier thread regarding holidays/vacations made me think a lot of you have pictures of your favorite get-away set up, whether tent, motorhome, trailer, caravan or tailer. What floats your boat? Care to share? Wife and I have been all over in our 17' Bantam by Trail Lite. Heres one pic also in Utah. (If you can't figure out where I'm not gonna tell ya.)

8 person tent, sleeping bag, and my 1970's era colman white gas stove. Made it all the way across the country with that.

We used to tow a large Jayco Hardtop camper when the kids were young. We stend a lot of time at some of our favourite places on the east coast of Canada and the US and in Ontario and Quebec,
I do some camping while motorcycle touring: small tent, thermarest mat, sleeping bag and backpacker stove. When traveling with Mrs. O it has to be a comfortable hotel/motel or B & B.
Pics taken near Skagway last summer.

My Ex thought anywhere without room service was camping! :)

Who needs to go camping when you live in a log cabin in the woods on a lake?

A beautiful spot Derek. Is your log cabin at the end of the rainbow?

I use a tent. I've recently been learning about survival shelters, just in case.

This is the set up I had prior to going to Japan, sold the camper as I didn't want it stored for three years,......I'd love to have it back again.

Notice the big decal!!

Pickup, camper shell, bed in bed of pickup; campfire, but make coffee and heat water on a Coleman gas stove. Bathe in a bucket. Use forest service campgrounds and their stinky outhouses. Love it, but not necessarily the stinky outhouses. Better than going in the woods, though.

Here's the only photo I have on this computer. But we have a 24' Pop Up. We love camping in the adirondacks!

We have a 2000 Yukon XL that we bought used in 2006 with 150K miles on it. We also have a Coleman Sunridge tent trailer that sleeps 8. No pictures of the Yukon or Colemna, just of sceenry and people.

This last June we use them to go from Bakersfield, CA to DC. We were gone the entire month and had only three problems--Idler pully in VA, trailer tire in OK and, of all things, ac went out in Needles, CA (110F). We knew we'd pay through the nose for gas, but it was our last trip with all the kids--two go to college next year and another the year after. Overall, it was a great trip.

BTW, the Yukon now has 180K miles and is still going strong.

I load all my camping equipment, ice and food for at least a week and I go into the back country airstrips in the west and the dirt in Mexico all the time. As long as I have enough books I am able to stay out for sometime. I can get into and out of all but the most rough places even with the wheel pants. I have added extra gas tanks in the wings and have an 8 hour range.

We don't really do much any car camping, but do go back packing. The only digital photo I have handy is of the custom made sleeping bag my wife and I made (co-designed, but she is the seamstress). We both use Jansport frame packs and a light weight pack tent.

This Summer we are planning a car camping trip though with our daughter, her husband, and grandkids. Suppose we might use the packing tent, as we got rid of the big tent years ago.

Richard, have you ever considered going to the annual Fly-in at the McMinnville airport just across the highway from Evergreen Aircraft Museum (home of the Spruce Goose)? We're about 10 minutes from there, and usually drive over every year.

It's interesting to see what camping means to different people. For me it's a backpack, MSR stove, water filter, decent sleeping bag and a little food. This usually works for 5-7 days w/ little issues. This summer I'm planning an overnight with the kayak, although I'm still figuring out the logistics.

Chris, I'm too damn old to be walking thru the woods with a back pack,
sleeping in a bag, thats not for me I got enough of that in viet nam.

Here's our set-up, the tent is actually three separate ones that can be used individually or together.

M65gb, no it is a hot rod C-182. I replaced the 230HP and put a 300 horse power fuel injected engine in with the three blade prop. I also ripped the entire interior out and brought it up to 2006 standards in leather and avionics. I can get off the ground with almost a full load very quickly and almost scary angle of climb. Works well in the river bottoms in Idaho.

Rod, I am going to the ARlington Washington show this year and I will camp on the airport under my wing in the tent.

That's kinda funny, my dad said something very similar when I asked him about camping out once.

I still enjoy being outside a lot, but the backpacking trips are few and far between now. Bad back, knee... too much work.... For me it's about getting away though, the less 'conveniences' the better. Besides, the first hot meal, or for that matter, sitting in a dry chair is a treat when I get home. :)

It depends, with the scouts we car car a good bit so we have some larger tents for 4-6 folks. the guys all like to pile into a single tent and have caterpillar fights. (pull a sleeping bag over the head and wrestle).
Back packing we often take hammocks and a rain fly.
Going to Bristol for the NASCAR race we use the Westfalia van plus a tent swimming pool and pop-up fly and camp among the Prevosts and big coaches, what a laugh.

Started of with a 2 man ridge tent then a 4 man frame tent then a Combe trailer tent on to a 12ft 2 berth caravan on to a 4 berth 14ft, then a 20ft RV and now a 27ft RV.
photo's, 20ft RV with MG , and my current RV that also will have the MG behind it.

Ed, can you point me to somewhere on the 'net that I can see more details about your sidecar camper? I've seen them on trailers, but never on a sidecar.

My idea of camping/roughing it is a hotel/motel without a pool/jacquzzi/wireless service.

My idea of REALLY roughing it is sleeping in the MG alongside the road.

a 1994 vintage Flagstaff pop-up camper trailer pulled originally by a Ford Explorer and now our Honda Pilot. Still have a great family dome tent but the ground got too hard on the back.

I mostly camp with a tent and the Chevy Tahoe. We often camp at balloon rallies. I am thiking of an extended MGB trip that would include camping most nights. I need a tent idea that would fit in the car and one that could possibly include a cover over the car.

We've had a series of VW campers. The last one was a 95 VW Eurovan Camper that also doubled as the family car. Sold it 3 years ago & am now looking for 84-91 Westfalia (preferably 87 in white!)

If someone knows where one is, let me know!!!!

The wife won't even consider camping and I must admit as much as I enjoyed it when I was younger, I do enjoy the ammenities of hotels more these days.
So as far as a camping set up goes .........

Derek--The sidecar camper used to be a trailer--a Kompact Kamp. I removed the tongue and wheel and bolted it onto a Texas Sidecar double wide chassis. The camper box is 33.5 inches wide at the bottom and the sidecar chassis has a 34 inch wide surface. Any chassis that wide or wider would work. The camper has 6'4" of headroom and only takes a couple of minutes to set up. It also has 15 cubic feet of storage. Sure does make camping a lot easier on the knees. The camper as a trailer is easily towed by any MG that runs.

My all time favorite was this little 1965 Apache Raven. I painted it to match my little truck and later made it yellow. It's owned by some guy in Florida now. He spotted it in an on line album I have and e-mailed me about it.

We use the 1975 Travco 270 in my signature pictures now. I put a 1995 Cummins 5.6 turbo diesel engine in it.

This is our 'new to us' motorhome. We got it last fall in time for the Vintage race in Watkins Glen. Didn't get any pics of it set up.

However, it is a 1978, with less than 50K miles on it. Everything works great and the interior was in perfect shape (although dated in colour :-). The awning had never been used! It was brand spanking new and clean when we opened it at Watkins Glen for the first time. We got the little land yacht for $3,000!

We've already booked our site at Watkins Glen State park for the long weekend in May. Looking forward to it.
