Is that aircraft parts (fairings, nose bowl?)on the right on the saw horse? If so what??? I'm an A&P and noticed that in the picture.

That's a nose and engine cowl from a friends Aeronca Champ. I primed them for him. Same guy that has the P-40.

I already knew that was a Champ or Chief cowling and nose bowl. I've primed and painted one just like it, checked the oil beneath it a thousand times, and spent hundreds of hours smashing bugs upon it. A Champ is the perfect destination for a Midget on a warm summers day. And for those who don't know what a Champ is............

About six years ago my beloved Champ fell victim to a record setting Kentucky blizzard when a large accumulation of snow and ice collapsed it's hangar. It was like loosing a member of the family. But I still have my Midget tucked away in the barn and soon I will start the long process of waking it from a long slumber........

Cool pic! First plane ride I ever took was in a Champ. I was 5 and I sat in my Dad's lap in the rear seat. We made a pit stop on the levee so the pilot could pee. I think he had been drinking. We got some looks from passers by. That Champ got wrapped around a tree by a tornado. Sorry to hear about yours. It looked great.

Paul, you mentioned that your friend with the Champ also has a P-40? If that's the case you will appreciate this one. A few years before we lost the Champ to the hangar collapse I was on my way to an airshow in a P-47. My brother got the Champ and met me over the Ohio River just northeast of Louisville. Another friend in a Piper Tomahawk had a camera. This trio of utterly mismatched aiplanes resulted in a photo of a rather unusual pairing..........

This was like two people taking a MIdget and an Indy car for several laps around the brickyard. It defies the laws of both physics and will to keep them together! The P-47 is now in Galveston. Incidentally I bought my current airplane, a Cessna L-19 Birddog, in Lafayette. Bought it from Hugh Evans and it was living at a private airstrip belonging to Leonard Castille about five miles east of the Lafayette airport.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread!
