Some of you may remember my earlier post about my oil cooler line that sprung a leak last week. Well I removed the cooler and when cleaning it, I noticed the right fitting is at an angle. Looking closely at it, it doesn't look like someone bent it while tighening the fitting. The top surface is flat with no wrinkles from over torqueing it or something. It looks exactly like it came from the factory like this. There has been absolutely NO leaking from this fitting in the 5000 miles I've owned this car.
My question is this, are any of your coolers like this, with the angled fitting on the right side?

It should be straight. They are not difficult to bend or break so it probably happened during assembly or disassembly. Personally I would not use that cooler since failure could be very costly.
Jim.
Steve is correct. Originally the oil coolers have straight fittings. It is very easy to bend the soft top of the cooler. It's very common to see them with bent fittings. I would not try to straighten one, but would reuse if it hadn't been leaking.

Nope.
Someone probably put a hand down on the hose end while leaning into the engine bay.
I put pressure on one I was trying to remove the hose from to dispose of. I will testify to what Kelvin says. That top started to deform way before the hose fitting let go. It was a good lesson. I'll never torque those fittings without a firm wrench grip on on the hex below.
