I just had my 1980 MGB air cleaner housing sandblasted and now need to paint it(although it really looks good as bare metal). I suppose it should be a heat resistant paint?? The cat converter is just a few inches away. All of the previous paint near the converter had burned off. I also discovered the reason for an obvious air leak into the carb. Someone had used the wrong gasket between carb and air cleaner.

You have two choices in my opinion-one is POR 15, the second is powdercoating. I think I'd choose powdercoating in a satin black. POR will be too glossy for my taste

I like smooth gloss Hammerite paint.

You can buy rattle can heat resistant semi-gloss black Rustoleum at Lowe's that looks just like the OEM finish. Jack

I happen to have an unopened can of POR15 but it says nothing about being heat resistant. No powder coating places around here that I know of - so, may just go with the heat resistant Rustoleum. Might use POR on the radiator overflow tank and the rocker (valve) cover instead. Thanks for the advice(s)

There is no need for the paint to be heat resistant. In fact, I'd bet the radiator gets hotter than the aircleaner cans. Any good paint, including regular auto paint will do fine. I use auto paint when I paint engines and heads without any problems

I'm glad you said that 'bout using auto paint on engines, Gerry. I just cleaned up my engine before I install and a local paint guy talked me into using auto paint, and I was having second thoughts about it.
