On my 77 MGB the air pump was removed by PO. A hose was run from Gulp Valve to Check Valve ,right above spark plugs. Car
starts and runs real good, but uses oil at times? Should I go ahead and detoxe per John Twist's instructions or leave it as is?

With no pump, you may as well go ahead and de-tox.
Clean everything out and not many state safety inspectors will ever know it was there. The easiest clean way to plug the air manifold ports in the head is to use 7/16" fine thread allen screws available at most big hardware stores and car parts dealers.
suggestion.. if you do this , i would recommend putting on the threads some antiseize compound in case you need to remove the plugs some time in the future
I better not identify where I live, but we don't have to have our vehichles inspected for safety or emissions. I find it odd that so many states regulate this stuff. When the feds read this they're really going to crack down on Utah.
We don't have one either...just waiting. Politico's are doing battle over mandatory insurance now. Insp are next but maybe not in my lifetime...
What happened to them Wildcats??
Maybe they will understand it better in German:
" Wir haben nicht ein... auch nicht, gerade zu warten. Politico tun Schlacht über vorgeschriebener Versicherung jetzt. Prüfer sind folgend aber möglicherweise nicht in meiner Lebenszeit..., Was geschah ihnen Wildkatzen?? "
Or Spanish:
"No tenemos uno tampoco... apenas el esperar. Politico ahora está haciendo batalla concluído seguro obligatorio. El inspector es siguiente pero quizá no en mi curso de la vida... Qué les sucedió los gatos monteses?? "
Didn't recognize the German part, but I'm very familiar with the old Spanish poem.
Does anyone know the overall effectr on emmisions numbers when the air pump is removed?
I removed mine and it is now failing the emissions test in Houston. Too much CO. Is this the carberator or air pump?
