Anyone have any photos of a GM 10SI alternator installed. The GM is the most available for me and the easiest alternator in the world to rebuild, but I assume I'm going to have to make brackets. I'd rather not have to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks

Tom

I've got a GM alternator that I got at http://www.mgccars.com/100_amp_alternator_upgrade.htm. I used the old brackets without any trouble.

What Rick says, if the 10Sl is the same as the CS130 you should just be able to clock the case and use the existing brackets.

The 10si is the oldie GM alternator that runs a one-wire hook up and is a favorite of hot rodders. The GM Saturn alternator that Rick installed is different and is capable of using the OE mounting points, something the 10si is not able to do. Altho the 10si has been successfully installed many times, it has also been unsuccessfully installed as well, leading to some spectacular disasters (broken water pump arms, alternators thrown into radiators, etc. Not every backyard engineering effort works out and details of how to make brackets for the 10si for our cars are generally lacking. If you absolutely, positively have to use the 10si, Google images of such installations and see what the successful ones have done. That seems to be about as good as it gets.

Otherwise, you can get the GM Saturn alternator kit like Rick used and have your problems resolved and few worries about mounting. Or you might want to take a look at what is here ~ http://www.cibolas7.net/17901.html for a general idea of this and other alternatives.

All the alternators mount in pretty much the same way, using the original factory brackets. The only issue I've expereinced is that some of them require a belt that's roughly 1 1/2" longer than stock. The 1-wire alternators don't give you the option of using the dummy light on the dash, unless you do some extra wiring.
