At that price for a 2.8l you'd better REALLY want one! I'd have a hard time justifying the expense. To me it looks like a GM performance part off the top of my head. I'll ask my son whose a GM mechanic when I get home.
it is a GM performance part. The block was covered in the book Chevy Power which you could get from your local Chevy parts counter. Saved about 55 pounds over the cast iron item as I remember. I though they could also be bored to use in a 3.4. I think they were mostly used by off road truck racers where the weight savings was worth the expense.
