How many reloaders do we have on the board? My buddy and I recently bought 7200 rounds of once fired 308 brass. I have already polished over 1000 rounds of brass. We are planning on loading 2000 rounds, if we can find the bullets, the reloading world has gone nuts. Any of You guys need any 308 brass PM me.

Regards John

John, Years ago I reloaded all my bullets for my 243. I really enjoyed playing around with different loads and different grain bullets. With a real hot load and a 75 grain HP I could hit a plastic shotgun shell and it would never fall over. H-O-T

A few years ago when I was in Law Enforcement I loaded 38+p so i could afford to be at the range every week. I used a Dillon Square Deal then and it was perfect for reloading just one calibre. Now, needing to be proficient with a handgun again, I looked into reloading 40sw (the old wheel gun has been retired) and found the cost advantage just did not seem to be as great.

Carl,
I just bought a new .40 S&W - haven't been to the range yet. Moving-up from a 9mm (Browning) to this new piece. Looking forward to it, but the ammo is a bit more expensive.

OMG! The bigbadpowerful Pelosi is passing a law, all by herself, gonna take our ammo, gonna take our guns, next thing you know, she's gonna take our wives and kids! What House bill is that in, let me write Rep Bob Inglis (R-SC) and have him filibuster.

Chicken Little, where are you when I need you??

Are they military cases?

When I reloaded I bought a pile of "once fired" 7.62 Nato cases. They were of dubious quality. When I resized and checked case volume there were discrepancies. These "once fired" cases frequently showed signs of neck failure after only a few reloads.
I never did really like the 308 for long shooting. Too much drop. My first rifle was a Savage 99c chambered for 308. Great up to about 100 yards. I called it my brush gun.

When reloading I strived to make each cartridge 100% identical. Each one was match grade.
My favorite cartridge was the 270 Weatherby. A sweeter shooting cartridge was never invented.
A 130 grain Spitzer Boat Tail with IMR-7828 pushing it can place 2 to 4 inch groups at 500 yards.

I tried many different loads and bullets. The most interesting was the Sierra 90 grain Hollow point with IMR-4350 behind it. Accuracy was excellent. I worked up to a maximum load using new brass. If these cartridges were loaded to the max that bullet would leave the snout and just go wherever it wanted. Accuracy was zip. With reduced loads accuracy was almost as good as the 130 grain.

Yep, I reload. If you got WRA brass from the late '60s early '70s, that is good stuff. But, I doubt you can get that any more.

There are several places that sell pulled slugs from either .308 or '06. Until recently, those were decently priced, say aroudn $10 per 100 (or less). I'm sure things have really gone wild with the the Dems going back in power.

7.62 x 39 or 7.62 x 51?? The x 51 have better accuracy and range than the 39. I used qualify shoot using the 7.62 x 51 at 300 yards or more (Australian Military). The last time I had even lost my front sight and still hit 8 out of 10 300 yard targets. This was using the Australian made L1A1 SLR..

Used to reload, more often when I was stationed in Alaska. I've got a .308 also with lots of Military 7.62 brass, some never reloaded. Also have a lot of lead around from back then. Just don't shoot as often as I used too. Keep meaning to get some black powder to shoot in my black powder rifles, just haven't got around to it. Seems the last time I went to the range shooting I took my daughter and we fired .22's (rifles and pistols)

I used to when we shot rifle matches. Not much since then. I do still have the tools though.

Simon the cartridge brass was for the FN C1 that the Canadian military used. They were the same as 308 Win.I think they must have been the 7.62 x 39. At any rate is was not a very flat shooting cartridge.

If it a 308 then it's the 7.62 x 51 and you had something wrong somewhere,as the 51 generally is a pretty good round..

308 win at its' best has a 37 inch bullet drop at 500 yard. It has a rise of 1.9 inches at 100 yards. Not real shabby ;) at 300 yard the drop is 6.5 inches.

The 270 weatherby mag has a drop of 28 inches at 500 yards and a rise of .8 inch at 100 yard. At 300 yards the drop is 4 inches
The 270 crossed below the line at around 140 yards. This means .8 inch out of the sight line all the way to 140 yards.

The important thing is to know your rifle and its' loads. Consistent loads are one of the keys to long range accuracy. When I was target shooting I averaged 80 rounds a week at the range. At 500 yards, using a rest, I could consistently hit a 4 inch circle with my 270. If it was blowing or raining the story was much different.
We did quite a bit of uphill and downhill target shooting. Uphill was always the hardest to figure bullet drop.

.45ACP, .45/70, .30-06, .257 Roberts, .375H&H. Cast my own bullets for .45/70. I have a book, "When the Stores Are Closed."

BTW JIM, the 7.62 x 51 is great for hunting wild pigs - especially if you goof up and grab a case of ammo that is 1 in 5 tracer round. THe smell of bacon certainly lets you know you are on target..

I have the stuff but no permanent place to set up.....I hate having to set up and break down my stuff. By the time I get set up the steam is gone.

Some of my best memories growing up was reloading with my dad. A not so good memory is of my brother blowing a 7mm-06 in half when he grabbed one of our pistol powders when he was reloading ( he was always quick to grab and slow to check). It welded the case into the chamber, broke and burnt about three of his fingers and snapped a leupold scope in half. Needless to say he is only allowed to buy his ammo from now on....or we reload for him. I think that rifle is still making the rounds to the hunter safety classes.

I do believe he may have broke some sort of fps record on that shot though.....
