Chris, I'm not sure of available holes on the '78 but you want to keep it low as possible and then curve up to cable attachment assuming SU carb. May be easy enough to cut new hole and use a grommet.

Putting the cable through the dimmer's hole seems to be a popular thing to do. Just remember to connect the wires from the dimmer together and tape it up. Your gauge lights will always be at full brightness this way

use the same place the choke cable ran thru originally.

you may need to use a zip tie to keep the cable from looping iponto the exhaust manifold. you can zip tie it to most anything to hold it off the heat...even the steering column (keep an eye on it as it will likely wear a bit and need replacing -- heck, at oil change intervals...the things cost a nickel, if that.)

I drilled a 3/8" hole just above where the hood release cable goes through and routed it out the other side - worked great with my Weber.....

I did exactly the same thing as David. The cable comes out the inner fender opening by the brake master cylinder and across to the carb (DCOE in my case).

Mac....'78s didn't come with a manual choke....

Either as David or Joe suggested, or since it being a conversion the easy way is through the pullout rubber plug.
