This one maybe only up for a day or so.
So Tony, did you say before that the engines used by Land Rover have lower compression than those wanted by MG'rs?

I'm not really sure about which ones are lower compression...Dsicoveries, I think are 8.7:1...other Rover engines are 9.75:1....Glenn Towry wanted a higher compression engine as the base for my 10.5:1 300-hp 4.2.....&, if you read the book on converting to V8 power, it says to stay away from the lower compression engines!
FWIW, I just looked at my workshop manual for my 99 Discovery II, it says the compression ratio is:
Low 8.23:1
High 9.35:1
I find the Rover V8 conversion facinating, it was reading about guys on Land Rover sites that had converted MGB's that got my old MG interest going again.
The MGB/Land Rover conversion is too common. I want to see a Disco with an MGB engine!
It's slow as it is! An engine with 1/2 the horsepower and more weight? Man, I really would get blown by on those mountain passes!
Well, that would be about the experience with the original Land Rover 109!
I had a 71 Series IIA 88 for a while in the early 90s. It had about as much power as an MGB, and wasnt too slow below 45 mph thanks to the gearing. It also had an overdrive (made the truck a eight speeder), but 65 mph was the comfortable top end in OD 4th gear.
