Hello to all out there in the forum, I am new to it but have read some very interesting comments....I do have a problem with my heater fan motor. The other night I removed the fan motor because it did not turn very well and I was going to take it apart and lube the bearings...I was trying to remove the squirrel cage blower and had trouble removing the small spring type holder on the fan shaft...After pulling, prying and trying to remove it, I got a screwdriver and began to pry the spring holder off...Well it began to move slightly, and all of a sudden it flipped off, hit the corner of my garage ceiling, bounced off a corner wall and where it came to rest is a great mystery..In other words, I can't find it...Also, getting the blower off the shaft, I cracked it and broke one od the holders that fit on the shaft....

My question is, do any of you out there have a good squirrel cage blower, and spring clip in one of your parts boxes for sale? If so please let me know... By the way, I did get the motor apart and cleaned and lubed it, not too much trouble after I figured out how it went back together...

Sorry to br so long, but this is my first post, and the motor is out of a 79B...Understand there is a difference between a CB and RB car.....

I had the exactly the same experience. I glued the squirrell cage together for a while and that was fine, but the heater motor was only marginally quieter after lubing it, so I ended up with a new motor, cage and clip. Not that expensive, and to be frank no more effective than the old assembly athough it was a lot quieter.

Welcome aboard. The Chicago MG Club did a nice write up on rebuilding the heater fan, etc. The link is below. Hopefully it will help you with your project. Read the article carefully, I think that it even gives you the part numbers from MGOC to order towards the end. I would also suggest that when you have a few moments, that you do an advanced search on the topic as the heater has been the source of much discussion and frustration for others as well.

Hello, and welcome from down the road in Concord. You will find this a great site with lot's of wisdom. 90% of the time I can find what I need thru a search of this forum, and countless people have helped me with advice and parts (via the Trader). Great community.

Welcome and learn for the carom shot...ask first...its free and worth every cent

There is a specific forum to post a WTB (wanted to buy)...the trader section. I'd try there but do a search first as someone may still be trying FS (for sale) the items you need....

Good luck and welcome again!

Lee - Thanks for the link. The article mentions control cables. I've never removed the heater from a B, but I would have thought there was just the one cable to control the defrost/feet damper and a cable that could remain connected to the water valve.

Yes Paul, two cables as you describe. The heater valve is best left on or off as its prone to breakage. A lot of threads about alternate devices but its not the best UK design from day one...
