I'm in my 60s and driving the car I bought in my early 20s. I'm having way more fun with it now that it's a leisure car, as when I bought it it was daily transport.
It's also much more reliable now.
Naomi, are you planning on writing a book? If not, maybe you should.

Now that's mean Tom -- I don't know why you took such an immediate dislike to me as soon as you came on board. I'm pretty calm and laid back and will let you by with that but just as a little advice --- you might not want to do the same to some of these guys!! I guess you are still mad because you are just a wannabe "Hillbilly" and I'm a real one :)
By the way nobody is going to know what age bracket you clicked on the poll :) :)

Now that's mean Tom -- seems as if you have an attitude because you are a wanna be "Hillbilly" and I'm a real one !! Nobody is going to know what age bracket you clicked on the poll :) :)[/quote]
Maybe your age choices did not include his age group and he feels left out?
Only been a few years since my 20's that there was not a British car in the driveway. My first was an Engllish Ford Cortina, I was 16.
I am 49, got the car when I was 47.
I suppose that makes me in my 40s but standard demographic deviation puts me in the 46-54 range.
Using that breakdown designates the difference between
"Generation Jones" (Born 1954 to 1964)
and
"Baby Boomers" (1946-1964)
Although they overlap there seems to be a distinct difference between them.
These baby boomers are associated with continuity of values with traditional Americanna values and mores whereas the GenJones is more aligned with the promises of reward for the redefinition of these values.
The reason they overlap is that both occurred at the same time. My parents both served in WW2 Dad was Navy, Boatswain on a DE in the South Pacific while my mother was a WAC and, although she appeared on recruiting posters for the Army during the war, was a Corporal. She must have done something pretty important considering the military turnout at her funeral.
Anyway the didn't meet until 10 years after the war and my siblings have more in common with baby boomers than GenJones.
just in case anyone was wondering.......
Good one Naomi!
If you go to Tom's home page, you can see he is a very private person. To each his own.
Since you brought up the subject - how do you catagorize a "Hillbilly". I've heard the term but wouldn't be so bold as to say I understand it.
It has been said that, in my town, you can only be a resident if you have at least one broken frig on the front porch - am I getting close?

Round these here parts one leg is a little shorter from walking up and down the hills and ya have to have at least four cars in the yard -- three for parts and the other to drive. We also flatfoot, love mountain music, and live on the "Crooked Road" :)
Be 80 in Oct.
first brit car i bought new 1958 TR3A..
Owned mostly TRs and im on my second B.
Moved around a lot ,so cleaned out inventory several times
and started up again..

Absolutely uncalled for under any circumstances.
I think you're putting me on (a bit) but I can see where you are coming from.
Some years ago I drove through the "Blue Ridge Mountains" - beautiful country.
Well, maybe these non-technical MG questions should be OT. Just an observation - I know we all tend to digress.
...never come here Naomi, but today I had to ask a question.....so maybe I'll luck out and make a New Old Young Friendly B person. I can only hope.......
Imagine how depressed this has made me to discover that I'm on the older end of those who own MG's. I think I'll go lie down for a while.
What no 20 somethings? I guess I should get that GT that my daughter wants so you can at least one vote in that age bracket. Too many old people and not enough under 30. Need youth to keep these cars running and away from the crusher.
park it in downtown Detroit...some youth will surely enjoy it.
Tom, you should be ashamed.
IMO, a public apology from you to Naomi is in order.
Well, maybe these non-technical MG questions should be OT. Just an observation - I know we all tend to digress."
James I do agree with you somewhat and did put some thought as to whether I should post here or the General Off Topic Forum. My thinking is the age bracket, and majority age group, is of interest when we look at the total scheme of MG owners/Members of the MG Experience. It was really a toss up for me and I do appreciate your observation and applaud you for mentioning it :) :)
I'm 59, 60 next month, and bought my MG in '72 from the original owner, who got it as a Christmas gift, in '67. RAY

It's about MGs isn't it? Why should ANY question dealing with MGs be in the OT section?
I'm 51 and bought my first mg a little over a year ago. I don't post much but I read and learn a whole lot. It's a great way to spend spare time. I think however, that those who police the forum for matters such as whether something should be posted somewhere else ......... Well maybe they have too much spare time. Naomi, I do have an issue with the hillbilly thing. I grew up in Roanoke and consider myself more of a garden variety Virginia redneck than a hillwilliam. I'm just sayin'.
Bought my first MGB in 1972-a step up from the Triumph motorcycles I was depending on for transportation year round. Have always had either a MG or a Triumph or BSA ever since
I'm 41 and bought my first B, a 73 when I was 18. Have had a few since then. only went two years without one at all. :)
this belongs where it is - i really enjoy these polls and i would not see them in ot area - i dont go there - if i wanted that "stuff" i wouldn't be here
ric
Bought at 22, same car six years, five moves, one deployment, wife and son later. Granted, it's been a hanger queen for the last four years, but that's hardly unusual.
I voted...not sure how it applies to me in some way as I recently, bought my MG in my 50's, never had one before this, and I only have 5 driving months = 8,000km approx) with her so far, hmmm, methinks I am making up for lost time...as with the weather today 8C with rain it feels like the dreaded white stuff will soon be here....ARRRGH...I want more driving time...
Bought my 1st lbc at 19, a Morris Minor. My 1st new lbc at 21, a Morgan. 3rd lbc at 24 was a MG 1100. 1st MGB at 32 (still have it) and my current GT obtained when I was 55. Has been an lbc in the driveway since I reached my majority!
Now aren't you glad you included the 50's category ;)
Kevin
All I had was a wispy afternoon behind the wheel of a 65B when I was 17. I bought my first B at the age of 35, and drove it for one week. It took me, until this last October to finally, Buy a GT that I have been having a blast driving. Now I'm 57.
Naomi, I don't want to discredit your poll. But as a thought, back when I was 35, 1988. I read a poll that said: There are more people living right now (1988) at age 35 than any other age group. In other words, The baby boomer bulge.
So,as your poll indicates more people have voted 50+ years of age. Is just an indication that the baby boomers are the biggest group buying B's? Or is it just that, the boomers represent the largest single age group living today?
Clear as mud to me, Just not the way I typed it.
Any statisticians out there?
Chris
Maybe your age choices did not include his age group and he feels left out?
"
I think that is definitely the case! Naomi - can you add a category for those aged 2 to immature?!
Good poll, I think it's been on here a few years back, I think it was John Moore that posted it.
That was uncalled for Tom, if you didn't like the post then you shouldn't have opened it.
What no 20 somethings? I guess I should get that GT that my daughter wants so you can at least one vote in that age bracket. Too many old people and not enough under 30. Need youth to keep these cars running and away from the crusher."
If this poll were before February, I'd have been a vote there. Of course, I didn't know this board existed back then, so it's a catch 22.
I don't usually talk about my age here just because I know the majority of owners here are senior to myself. I just turned 30 this year and have owned my 80 B LE since I was 17, buying it for $1800 earned delivering pizza. Yes, I delivered a few pizzas in the B when my regular daily driver was down for maintenance. I believe my 80 B is actually one month younger than me, which may be why I have kept it this long.
Tom, you should be ashamed.
IMO, a public apology from you to Naomi is in order."
Never gonna happen, that goes the same for you cry babies out there also. If you don't like what I got to say, DON'T READ IT. I do the same but got tired of seeing lame topics like this one, so I spoke out about it or better yet initialed about it.

loudly
I'm 65 and I own a time machine called a MGB that takes me back to my late twenties. Na, I regret the feelings you must have experienced when you read Tom's post,
I've already been reprimanded, it's pretty funny when people can assume what initials mean without it being spelled out. We have a bunch of Kreskin's here on this forum. Pick a card, any card.
How sad that such a fun topic could turn into this.
Naomi, you're a peach. :)
Tom, Please post what your initials stand for, if you can. My view is you stepped on Na's post and should make public amend to her.
Naomi,
For the record, part 1.
I bought my TD in 1956 and still own it 54 years later.
I bought my TF in 1974 and still own it 36 years later.
I bought my B in 1976 and still own it 26 years later.
That amounts to a total of 226 years of continues MG ownership.
For the record part 2,
I feel really bad that someone would take you to task for this poll.
If you don't like a subject or post avoid it.
If it offends you in some way avaoid it.
Personally I think it was way out of line, for you to have something
like that thrown at you. In my time on this board I never found anything
you said or commented on offensive and if I don't like a post I avoid it.
I also don't like to get into a battle over a post.
Too bad some others can't do the same rather than throw insults
At almost 80 and still driving and enjoying MG's, I will continue on this
board and avoid posts like the one I'm referring to.
And if anyone dosen't like it that's fine with me.
If you decide to comment and/or insult me go right ahead.
But do not expect me to get into a verbal battle with you
as I have more important things to do with my time.
Hang in there Naomi you're too important to most of us here
To loose you, or to see you mistreated verbally is totally out of order.
George Herschell
My vote is a bit off as I should have put an asterisk after "40's". I only have about four months left in my 40's :)

OK, OK - everybody has had a chanch to kick Tom's @$$. He messed up, and I think he knows it. Who here hasn't?
Nobody can do it to you like you can do it to yourself.
Tom - :)-D

That's okay to savor it while you still can!
How old are you now and still owning and enjoy driving an MG ??
I guess I don't get to vote, bummer. Pole is "AND ENJOY DRIVING", current tense.
I bought my current '65 a couple of months ago. When I did the PO offered to fire it up. I opted for him not to. Didn't care, as I was going to strip it down and rebuild the engine anyway. So, while I do own one, I'm not driving.
Am I hurt? If I had feelings, yes I would be hurt. But, as I've not feelings, I'm OK. Thanks for asking. I do however, have a belly button, therefore an opinion. Tom's mean, and mean people suck.
Oh, I'm 61. I have my MG, my Harley, a BMW motorcycle, and a Yamaha motorcycle (FZ1). And 7 horses, none are mean. Did I mention that mean people suck?
I just got a PM from Tom....and he didn't use an acronym in it, so I didn't need to get out my decoder ring.
(:D
Was going to stop the voting today because I have one more poll question but forgot it is a holiday here in the US so I'll wait a few days before posting it.
Results are interesting and thanks to all of you who have already been so kind as to answer. Hopefully a few more will do so in the next few days :) :)
you need to tell me the question, it may take a few days to formulate an answer
Geeezers, comes to mind.:)-D"
same car ( a Midget, I'm just hangin' out with the big brothers/sisters ) from new 1972. Languished in boxes for a couple decades while I negotiated a few "curves" in my life. All is right with the world now. >:D< 'Cept a "B" or "C" GT would be nice.
Oh and I'm in "that" group with y'all, though just about out the back end. :D
And Tom, I don't know you but I'm sure you're a decent sort since you pulled the acronym that set a few off.
BTW, what does MYOFB mean :S, some of us are a bit slow and sometimes the ones we use are misinterpreted. Perhaps the single biggest reason NOT to use them IMHO. :D
If it was offensive and intended to be so, then it is perhaps best you do the right thing. I'm just sayin'.
14 of us over 70. Wow. (I cheated a bit-I won't be 70 for 3 weeks yet)
Naomi,
YAASL
We love you.
I drove my dad's MGA at age 17.......bought an MGB about 40 years later, and an MGA a few years after that. I love and drive them both and don't feel 61 when I do so.

Mind your own ****** business! Not telling you that, just telling you what the acronym means ;)
I have always liked the MG. Owned many cars over the years and just so happened that an MG wasn't one of them. Mostly muscle cars and trucks. Within the last 3 years, have gone British with the acquisition of two, an 88 Jaguar Vanden Plas and the MG, Amelia.
I owned my first car when i was 14, took me 30 years to obtain an MG.
I too look forward to seeing the overall results (from your various polls) when complete.
Talk soon,
im a young gun at only 22, although i was given the car (in a right state!) at the age of 13! , loving these polls BTW naomi, you'll have to post your findings for us all to see when all is said and done!
I kind of got my first MG when I was 19... a '64 Morris Mini Cooper S... its engine was an upgraded version of the A series lump in the Spridget, and that car would really go!
Dad wanted me in a tintop, not a convert, and the similar, slightly larger (and slower) MG 1100's were too new, so they were outside my budget.
The Mini gave way to an Alfa Duetto spider, followed by a GTO, a '71 Z28, a new Scirocco, a JPS Capri, and on through teh years, all the way to V8 and V12 Ferraris, an Aston Martin, and back down the scale again.
I got back into MGB's and Spridget's in my 30's and have always had at least one since (25 or so years on).
As I told USA Today, "I hop in that car (my '67 MGB) and I'm 21 again!"
As I told USA Today, "I hop in that car (my '67 MGB) and I'm 21 again!""
Mike you just described me :) :)
People buy the cars they liked when they were young. These cars were made 30-50 years ago, so . . . people 40-60 years old are going to like them most. Most young people today haven't the slightest idea what an MGB is. Why would they want one.
