Two good guides: <http://www.mgexperience.net/article/bmc-paint.html> or http://www.teglerizer.com/mgcolors/

PS: White was one of those Basic colors. Forgot to mention in the Poll Post but it is one of the options for voting :)

Naomi, when you get through with all your polls you will have some interesting data. I hope you will post your combined findings.
Mick

Original Factory shade of White

Similar here -- I had to vote "Red Not Factory Shade" but I do love the red shade I have. I'm guessing many of us have changed from factory to our own picks. Guess we'll see :)

Actually that's what I plan to do and I do hope it will be interesting to some :) :)

I'm enjoying these surveys. My guess is that Green and Red will prove to be the most popular colors, but early returns indicate I may be wrong. (And, for the record, my B is Teal Blue).

On a related subject, I'd be curious to know how many cars still have their original paint. As far as I can tell, mine does, although it definitely shows the nicks, scratches and fading you'd expect after nearly forty years. And while one side of me says new paint is in order, another says "leave it alone."

As more and more old cars get restored, I fear "originality" in its most literal sense, may become a thing of the past, no matter how many cars look like they're still on the showroom floor.

How 'bout it? Anyone else still sporting the original paint? If so, why?

Mine is Inca Yellow?, beleive it has been repainted.

im inca yellow, std colour from factory in 1980 ........... soon to be resprayed ............ the same colour, adventurous eh?

I voted factory red, but after paint mine will be Nissan Black Crimson.

Well, my colour (factory) is Blaze Red - so I checked off "red". However, anyone (other than the Brits) would call the colour orange.

And surely, you should be asking about colour, not color. ;)

Good way to phrase the question for those of us that have more than one car.

As Terry says, Vermillion which is orange was a popular colour, does this come under "red"?
Also, the LE models here in the UK were Pewter for the GT and bronze metallic for the roadster!
Hope this doen't confuse you're poll! :D

Harvest Gold and Citron also have just sprung to mind, do these come under a shade of one on the poll list?

PS Naomi, Have you decided on a colour for your car? I took a photo at the weekend of a B in a nice deep cherry red!

My LE is original factory black and original factory gray primer where I've compounded through the paint. I guess you could call it an original factory two tone paint job.8-)

Several of you have questioned as to what basic color your car falls under. Here's a good guide. Chick here >> http://www.teglerizer.com/mgcolors/

LE's only come in one shade of black......Damned black!!

Being over 90% color blind, I know it is some form of yellow! But for the life of me, I can't see much difference in all the colors.

Has it's good and bad sides. I can see deer in the woods like no bodies business.

But I sometimes dress funny. My wife used to say she was going to buy me color matched "geranimals"!

You forgot to add 'mostly primer'. Primer is a colour, right? ;)

Citron, hum green or yellow:S

actually it was a kind of metallic black. My LE has been repainted and is a nonfactory black, closer to black as my soul black, which is why I voted non factory

but I did get rid of the stupid painted bumpers :)-D>:D<

My 65 B that I am restoring was a factory light blue but when I am done it will be a factory red. Reason behind this is when I was a kid (really long time ago) I owned several B's and my best one was a 1968 painted red and my memories will not let me paint it any other color.

I voted factory Green. It is a factory color but not correct for my year.

Restoration is not complete yet, but it will be Dark British Racing Green as on my original new B in 1966. I'd like to paint the GT, Gramphian Grey, but the wife likes it black, which it now wears with a terrible DPO amature paint job complete with runs.

Well, since there are two of us, we each get to vote.

The Wiz voted - Blue, not factory for his GT

I voted - Yellow, not factory for the V8 roadster. Our color is Mercedes Benz Sunburst Yellow. :)

Factory green, unrestored but for wax and polish. Abundant patina and character marks. Love it.

Hey Naomi. How about a poll on what carburetors we are running.

Sep 07, 2010 18:40:34

Regular Driver is Factory Mallard Green the B-Gt is Factory Old English White but the 66 roadster is not the correct white

In response to Norman's question on carbs, both my 66 Roadster, and the 66 or 67 BGT (not sure which year it is) AUD 135's. Both original.

My GT is originally, and remains, lovely Limeflower.
One mans 70's chic is anothers nappy contents. I'm for 70's chic.

I guess my votes doesn't count, since I'm not actually driving mine that is proud to be wearing two-part epoxy primer.

some factory colors need colors that have lead in them and are hard to find and match

1980owner

Mine was originally a black 80 B LE. Had it de-rusted/painted somewhere around 2000/2001 and the body guy convinced me to change it to "anything other than black" as it wouldn't look right again due to the amount of restoration they had to do. I believed them and picked a color at a dark paint place front desk under fluorescent light and was told by the clerk "that's the same red they used on Mac trucks in the 80's". I thought back and was thinking it'd be more of a fire engine red.

Whoops, was more of an orangish-red.

As a side note, picked up a 75 Midget which has been parked since 1980 for a future project and it is nearly an identical color! I believe they called it "Burnt Orange". So I guess at least it looks like an original color.

Mine is currently a faded red, from a previous owner repaint, however, original color is Bracken (a factory Brown shade) which we will be going back to once rockers and doglegs are repaired. Sort of a funky muddy orange, not very popular and why I like it... (:D

MG Mineral Blue on my ground-up resto '67 Spridget, and a DPO-applied metallic blue on my '67 MGB driver.

If I had to paint the MGB again, I'd use Chevrolet Admiral Blue (95 Corvette) or Chevy Laser Blue (special order on 2010 pickups, Equinox, Cobalt).

They are both metallic dark blue tinged with indigo, much like mineral blue, my favorite non-metallic shade.

All our other cars are varying shades of silver... go figure.

Non-factory blue but hopefully it will go back to the original blue this winter.
