Hi:
I am redoing my engine compartment(71) and wondering if anyone might have a cut up harness with a good wire from the starter relay to the starter. The wire that I need is about 3' long and is white with a brown trace,it is the one that plugs seperate on the solenoid. Mine has a green wire spliced in as a repair, somewhere down the road it is going to confuse someone.
Thanks,John

John, I have one old harness already pulled and sitting in a box. I'll check it out for you. I may not get to it until Saturday, though, so others feel free to chime in. ;)
John, I'm replacing the harness on my '71 with a new harness.
I'm in Canada and can more easily get you the piece you need if you don't get a better offer.
Ron.
I took one apart the other week to salvage the good wires. If you can't find one local I'm sure I have the one you need. It just may take a bit to get to you thru the mail.
Bill
Thanks for all the offers. Ron is thinking that he has one,if it doesn't work out will impose on one of you.
Thanks again,John
Hi JOhn,
I dug my old harness out of storage and took a look.
The white wire with brown tracer on my harness starts off at the relay as exactly that, but at the other end comes out white only - and a smaller gauge wire at that.
I don't think I've got the answer for you. Sorry for any delay!
Ron.
Hi all:
Still on the hunt. I have a US address ,so it would be easy to mail.
John
I'll look at the one I have boxed up and let you know, John.
No joy. This harness has white with red and black, but no brown. Anybody else?
John,
I melted the wires from the starter to the alternator on my MGC last year due to a bad case of cranial rectosis. I ordered up the proper color and gauge wires from British Wiring, along with blue PVC tape to put my harness back together. They were excellent to deal with, reasonably priced, and downright hard to beat. I would recommend you take that route.

If you aren't hung up on originality, just run the proper gauge wire you can get locally and wrap it up. I was able to repair lots of fried wire in this area doing it that way, but I'm not hung up on blue tape!
Just print out the wiring diagram, and write on it what color you used for future reference.

Well, just to be a voice of dissent, keep the colors original if at all possible. We can all imagine (or remember, I suppose) the frustration in store for a future owner of your car when they get it, sans updated wiring schematic, and start referring to you as the DPO who used the wrong color wires...
The proper color wiring isn't that expensive, and will help make some future owner's life, not to mention your own, much easier at some point.
