My wife just got home from visiting relatives in Kentucky for the last few days. She was told by relative that one of her uncles has a friend that has an old MG. He says its one of the 6 MGs that were used in Queen Elizabeth's coronation (with documentation). It is said that he has turned down a few offers for over $70,000 for this vehicle. My wife said that it is a MGB. I find that hard to believe . It must be something earlier. Anyone know anything about these cars?

Well seeing as Liz's coronation was in '52 or '53 it would have to be an earlier model!! Don't forget Chuck had a MGC!!!
1953. I kind of doubt that story, but I'd be interested in seeing the documentation. All I can find mentioned in a quick web search is lots of horsies and Bentleys and Rolls.
Any chance that he's got his provenance confused, and the car is a Jubilee edition '75 B? (Built to celebrate H.M. Queen's Silver Jubilee...)
The Silver Jubilee was a 77 BGT. Only one was built. It's the inspiration for my aquiring a 74.5 BGT. I will have mine looking like the 77 Silver Jubilee car.
Ok -- I guess it's *ME* that's confused! Wasn't there some kind of UK-only special trim package for '75? Or am I just making things up?
My mechanic has one of the Jubilee roadsters mouldering out in his graveyard. It has special dash medalion. If it is worth $70,000 I might want to take second look at it :o)
Ok -- found it in Clausager. I knew I wasn't losing it (at least not that bad!)
Apr 75 - Special limited edition Jubilee or Anniversary model introduced for the home market; (description follows, BRG, stripes, wheels, etc). Total production: 751 cars (one destroyed in TV stunt)
Carl, get that medalion, restore a car around it and plam it off on some E-bay stooge for 70 Gs.
Yeah, that's right. The 77 Silver Jubilee was on the cover of the fall/winter Classic MG. A beautiful car. The only good looking rubber bumper car ever made and the best looking GT ever made.
Gotta se yours when it's finished. Have Carl get that medalion for you and bump your value 'way up. Just stay mum about it and some conehead will offer you 4 times what it's worth at a show.
Sure. People never offer me what something's worth, much less more than it's worth. And they never sell me something under what it's worth. Except the $100 70 BGT with an good motor and OD tranny. He didn't know what is was worth. He got it for free.
Geez, that chrome plated piece of plastic could send my kids to school :-)
The roadster with the medallion that's moldering in the junkyard is nothing special...its just a '75....they added the medallion to the dash to mark the Jubilee Year (that wasn't really the Jubille Year!) so all us 'Yanks' would think we're something special! All MG's made for North America from June '75 through the end of the '75 run had the "Jubilee" dash badge....grab the entire dash - not just the badge - as they're not being reproduced & could be worth a few bucks to somebody who's rebuilding a '75 (its the only thing of unusual value on the car)....
...oh, if anybody needs a used '75 dash w/badge...$100...or, you could pay me $69,950 for hand delivery to you!
Rob: As for the Green & Gold '75 Jubilee GT's, 751 built - none in the US so far as any major club knows!
&, Wray's correct about the '77 "Queen's Jubillee" car...only 1 built...same as for her "Diamond" car....1 MGF built!
David, where does this person live? One of my friends has an uncle in Virginia (or maybe South Carolina) that has a very old MG, only one of a couple in the states (PB? no, Magna? maybe that was it).
There was a car show in conjunction with the coronation celebration...maybe his MG was one of those entered in it....don't believe MG ever earned the title "to the queen" or whatever it is that Jaguar & Rolls have

If you ever see a Rolls with a kneeling Winged Victory hood ornament, my understanding is that it was owned by a royal. Of course, you could always switch ornaments but then you would want to confirm the ownership trail.
