I'm wanting to put these wheels on my MGB. If you have these same rims on your B, what size tires do you run?

These are P185/75/R14s...... (Thanks, Mac!)

Any problem with them rubbing?

Bob, I'm running 185/70-14's on my Rostyles. No problems at all. Got about 1/2 to 3/4 inch clearance up front when I turn the wheel lock to lock. Rear also has plenty of clearance.

Rostyles have a different offset. I don't know what the offset is on these, but depending on how low the car sits in the rear, anything larger might be problematic. Mac may chime in here - I've bought the car from him, haven't driven it, and the engine and tranny are coming out - but you should be good with 185s.

Before having the Datsun rims on the '73 polished I went to a junkyard and got an old pair of 185 tires just to see about the fit. $20 for the tires, $5 more for mounting them on the rims, and a spirited drive around the neighborhood let me know - without a lot of upfront $$$ - just how well they'd behave. Cheaper than buying tires and then finding a problem....

I forgot to add: Thanks to doing that little experiment, I have 175s on the Datsun rims. :D

Bob.

As you surmise the offset on the rims you have is not optimal for the MGB. It's pretty typical of 80s wheels which were set up more for the Datsun than the B.

I would try to get 185/70 tires to fit, but they may rub on the left outer fender. 175s should fit ok, but there will be variance from brand to brand.

One thing you might try. I had good luck machining some of the offset off the back face of the wheel on a large swing lathe. This was back in the 80s. Don't take too much off, or you weaken the web. The wheels I modified used washers on the tubular lug nuts and I had to add a spacer washer to prevent them bottoming out.

I'm going to give this a try again on the set of Libre wheels I just fell into.
