I've heard so many mixed things. DO the wheel masks you can get work well or are they crap? I'm talking about the self adhesive ones. I'd like the best job possible, but obviously if the quality is almost the same as doing all the work of masking, I'd go with that option.

Anyone with expierence?

Were talking about the stock wheels on a 79' for reference.

Thanks :)

been there did that i wouldn't say they are crap if you have the time and patience though i would save my money and use making tape the only problem i had with mine wast the adhesive on the back of the mask was to strong and bulled the paint off after removing the mask that could have been a factor of my mistake, but the blue painters tape did the best job for me

I used the laser cut masks on my rostyles and thought they were great. No problems at all. Used a hair dryer as per the instructions and had no bleed through. Bought them off the internet.

They work great. Just finished painting a set. Take your time. It is not an afternoon job. Let the silver completely cure before applying the mask and paint lift will not be a problem. Spray the edges of the mask with siver to prevent bleed under the mask. I used Duplicolor slver and satin black wheel paint with clear on top.

It's not hard or difficult to tape them off.

I started to tape my wheels to piant, and decided it was a major pain to cut the corners. I used the "yellow" laser cut masks (Bought off e-bay) and they went on fine. The only problem I had was the corners didn't quite fit perfectly, so in fitting them, there were small parts that didn't lay in the right place. I sprayed the black with several coats of satin, and then lifted off the masked (Zero problems with pulling the silver paint off). I simply went back wit a small modeling paint brush and touched up any areas (With either balck or silver). Much, much quicker than taping and the next set I do will be using the mask set again. The wheels look great!!

Be Coming

The original product which was made in the UK started out well, and then became unusable. Moss carried them for a while until the accuracy became so poor they were dropped.

This would result in poor experiences for many in the past.

The ones referred to as "e-bay, laser cut" are a different animal.

As said before, do not confuse the old clear plastic masks with the yellow stickers. The stickers are looking like a great product. Made by a member here.

Yes, the masks referred to in this thread are from me. They are made of paint-mask grade vinyl, a product with an adhesive that seals tight but is easily removable (somewhat of an oxymoron).

Also, just a technical clarification: these masks are not laser-cut but are die-cut using a steel rule die. The process is very accurate and reproducible.

I offer these at a special price that is less than the eBay price for forum members , PM me if you are interested.

Okay, so your the guy that makes the good ones? Obviously I've heard alot of conflicting information, but I rust you, guys, and will probablly try out a set of them. :)

Right, as Carl stated, a few years ago there was a clear plastic template that fit loose on the wheel (no adhesive). That unit did not work well as you can imagine.

I believe that Moss discontinued selling that unit.

Yep they did stop selling them. Because when we bought our MG, a catalog was included, and those masks were in it, we tried ordering some, and the Part number didn't exist. Thanks for all the feedback so far guys, I'm realy happy those discounted the crap-tastic ones. :D haha

The old NZMGBs

I didn't use masks or tape.
I sprayed my wheel silver, handpainted the black and then clearcoated the wheels = they look great.
