Okay, get your minds outta the gutter. :smoking:

I just spent about 8 hours changing the windscreen in the '73. Before I went on deployment last winter, the dang thing developed a huge, complex crack on the driver's side. (Stress crack - I think the top was adjusted too tightly and shrank in last year's single-digit Missouri weather.)

Generous doses of Astro Glide, several come-along strap "tourniquets" and copious cussing (freakin' British designers!) and the blasted thing is back in. I couldn't have done it without the lube.

I hurt all over. :(

Have you done anything with the suspension upgrade you recently received?!

Its no surprise that Rick and Astroglide are in the same post... I never considered using that for a windscreen install. Makes sense. Do you use the standard kind or the new "warming" type? :D

That's next up on the hit list, along with rebuilding the front suspension. Figure I'll do the back-end, then drive it just to see the difference the panhard rod makes. Then I'll do the front-end.

The car failed safety inspection because of the windscreen so I put that first. Plus, it's just about the hardest job on these cars so the rest will be easy by comparison.

Heh. Just the standard stuff. Didn't wanna make the rubber sag or anything.

and MAC thought I was too high with a quote of $1400 for the same thing..................

But I have never broken a windshield and I have done many of them.

Mavbe if you used the new KY his and hers it might have worked better. Or injected the rubber with papaverine (used for pirapism) it would have srunk the rubber and made it easier.

Did mine on the weekend, single handed with Castor oil. Not only was assembly easy, so were my next few visits to the bathroom!!

Pff, amateurs. I did mine solo.

I musta been under my B too long. Astroglide? some kind of xxx material?
I do hope it is water soluble, and not petroleum based.

I thought all of the urologists who used papaverine were retired by now! We used to compound an injectable for this...then Caverject, etc, arrived on the market.

"Different strokes." Heh. :D

Astro Glide is a water-soluble "personal lubricant". I've heard people say that by using it you can park a big-rig in a dog house. Sure does the job on the windscreen seals.

A nurse girlfriend years ago turned "us" onto Astroglide. They used it at the Gynocologists office where she worked.... I named it Analslide....

Aren't you fellows getting a bit too far afield? I use that stuff too but I don't advertise it.

I also tried it on windshiedls but found tire lube to be more effective and easier to use. I buy it in gallons and keep it for my tire machine.

Keep it clean guys, there are more than just old farts on this list.

I took the car back for re-inspection today. When the inspector asked who I'd gotten to replace the glass, I told him how I'd done the job. He noted in passing that using Astro Glide on Triple-XXX glass sounds about right.... ;)
