Months ago I was in a pretty good rhythm on the total restore of my wonderful 'B. Taking it apart is easy! ;) When I removed the front fenders, though, I was treated to a fairly typical MGB "surprise": rust in the frame. This has a twist, though! Some previous owner found the problem, cut out the rust, then put everything back together without a patch. *slaps forehead* No, really. I'm not making this up. (See attached photo.)
So now I'm looking at doing some significant cutting and welding on the frame. This is work that I'm NOT QUALIFIED to do. I've done a little welding before and have a light-weight rig that's great for tacking little stuff together, but I steer clear of structural welding and don't have the equipment for anything this heavy. I also don't want to get the car back together and find out -- as I try to hang the doors -- that I twisted it in the process.
So I guess this is boiling down to a plea for help. Are there MGB-friendly shops or individuals in the Atlanta area who can help me get the frame together and straight? I'm happy to get my hands dirty, but this just reeks of the type of job that rewards experience, of which I have none.
I'm tired of looking at the little car sitting there in pieces and really, really want to get the project moving again now that the crappy weather is starting to improve.
Thanks in advance for your help! I'll update my project journal once I get moving again.
Best Regards,
Tim

Tim,
You might contact some of the car clubs in the Atlanta area to find a reputable shop that will work at reasonable prices.

Tim, I've been meaning to call you for a while, to see how it's going. I can't be of any real help, but there are a bunch of guys around here that can weld. One in Lilburn held a welding seminar about a year ago. Contact the Peachtree MG Registry to find out who that was.
I still have that really good tub. Cheap if you want it. If you don't need my welding machine, call me.
