MGB: Battery boxes

I'm having an insane semester, with 1000 things to do every day....so yesterday I came home and worked on the B for 4 hours...

There is nothing better than shirking duty in order to do something you WANT to do...

Ok...a question. I got my new battery boxes today (before my twin 6's fell on the road) and they came with instructions to make your own tie-down system for the batteries. Necessary, or overkill? I realize it could be a danger in a rollover. Do any of you have a tiedown within the boxes, and if so how?

While I've got you....the hydromter shows both batteries at 25% charge, and I put the charger on them last night. One cell charged up, but the others didn't. Dead? If so, I guess I will convert to 12v.

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about tiedowns and it sounds dead to me!! 1 12 volt!!

My group 26 battery fits so snug that I almost cannot get it out! I don't see any need for tiedowns. Ever if you rollover you still have the battery cables and the steel covet to keep things where they should be. When you convert to a 12V be sure that you rig up a strap to go under the battery if you do not have a handle built in so that you can lift the battery out when you want to! Old seat belt webbing is just what you need.

I have a stainless angle iron and two hook bolts holding mine down. Overkill, and I have to go under the car to remove and replace the bolts. The area is just too close to work them totally from the top. Group 26 is the way to go, a 24 is so tight in an open carrier I doubt you could shoehorn one into one of hose boxes.

if you actually rollover in an MGB, probably the last thing you need to worry about is the battery!

Didn't Tom say that in all his years of working on B's he has only seen one rollover??
