I am considering tearing the engine down in my 76 B, it has 98000 miles on the clock. It seems to have a slight knock coming from the bottom end and it gets louder when the engine is warmed up. I want to perform exploratory surgery to find out the condition of the engine. What are the best gaskets to use and where is the best place to purchase the engine parts, if any are needed ? This will be my first time tearing into a B engine.

Thanks,

Napa store if you have one near ,,will give you a starting point .. Order Moss cat for initial reference also ..
Best price ? best quality ?
Complete overhaul ??
Just get rid of Knock until complete o-haul in future ??

Payen gaskets. Only kind to use. Also sold as FelPro brand by NAPA stores.

see the link suggested to you above and consider contacting Hap for his suggested "kit"--would likely be the same or better price than you'd get elsewhere, plus the advantage of the component quality. (note: you'd need to know what piston/ring size and crank bearing sizes you'd need before ordering, and this usually rewires teardown first to see what you have not and what it will take to clean it up.)

Brit Tek in New Hampshire has everything in a kit to overhaul that engine and upgrade cylinder head to hardened valve seats...
