MGB: Big hockey weekend coming up and Sarah Palin's not involved

Friday I'm meeting Dorothy at school in NYC and we're taking the train over to NJ to see the Islanders' season opener against the Devils. Then Saturday we're headed to that decrepit old barn in Uniondale for the Isles' home opener vs the Blues. The home opener has been a regular event for us since Dorothy was 8 years old. I don't think we've ever seen them win one yet ... it's the Islanders after all ... but it's going to be a great weekend!

Hey David... If the Leafs can win their opener in Detroit.. the Islanders should be able to score 10 goals against the Blues.

As any true Islander fan would we fully expect the Blues to score 11. ;)

What a great time we had! Friday's trip to NJ was cool. The Devils new arena is beautiful and their fans were for the most part very pleasant. Even the guy who good naturedly booed us. The Isles lost 2-1 but only because apparently the Devils are allowed to back into the crease, knock the feet of the opposing goalie out from under him and sit on his head while deflecting the puck into the goal. Last night at the Coliseum the Isles new coach's run and gun system worked perfectly. 4 first period goals set the tone and they never looked back. It took 11 years but Dorothy and I finally saw our first home opener win. If they can stick to the plan the Isles will be fun to watch this year.
Next up Klutz's Sabres ... probably going to be a little tougher than the Blues.

In this watered down version of the NHL... anything is possible. Watch Saten get 90 points this year with Crosby at his side.
