my bonnet sits about an inch further forward than the fenders, the fenders are mounted as far forward as i can with the available bolt holes. is there a quick fix for this or do i need to have the bonnet trimmed back?

There is some adjustment between bonnet and hinge but an inch is a lot.
i think i can adjust the bonnet back about 1/4" but its not enough as you say.
How does it fit against the slam panel? if the peg fits into the catch hole then there are wing problems.
ahhhh, wing problems then................... danm i have all the holes in the wing lined up correctly ( i think) if the wings are any further forward i have to re-drill almost all the bolt holes for the fenders. might just recess the bonet so if fits over the grille.
You need to put the shims in at the rear angle of the bonnet. There will be a gap that you need to fill with seam sealer.

Do a search on the board here and you will find many more pictures and topics. Some suggestions for search are: 'fender gap' 'wing gap' 'fender fit'
Those are glass wings, right? Just drill out the holes. That's part of the charm of glass parts (or lower priced aftermarket parts) - you spend HOURS fitting them.
I agree with Jeff. 'Glass fenders are about the worst for fit-quality. The ones on my car took a very long time to fit correctly. As long as you're using an original hood, get this lined up properly and then adjust your fenders to fit that. Using the panel at the base of windshield as a guide, you can get your hood lined up fairly well. Then go to work on your fenders.
Even replacement steel fenders can be a problem. When my 74 was restored some years ago, I used Heritage panels and the mounting holes had to be enlarged to get them adjusted correctly.
