Gotta pull the calipers of my '65 B. Want to replace (will probably have to anyway :-)) the rubber brake lines.
Options?
Thanks

In my sometimes questionable opinion.......I put stainless steel, teflon lined flex lines on my 79 because the old ones were cracked and had begun to deteriorate on the inside. The cost wasn't prohibitive, the fit was excellent, and they should last forever. Available from Moss for about 85 bucks.
stainless steel lines. They will firm up the pedal feel and look cool at the same time. They don't cost a whole lot more then the rubber lines either.
My parts guy said the rubber ones are in the "teens" cost while Vern said the stainless are $85!
BIG diff in cost!
Parts guy said use newer lines 'cause they have a shield wound around the rubber.
Is he right about the costs? Not sure about spending an extra $70!
Thanks
Don
I guess it depends on what you really want to do, and what sort of finances you have will make the descision..
with non silicone brake fluid, it really should be changed about every three years, as it aborbs water, and that is what causes the brake fluid to get nasty, and also messes up the feel.
Castrol has a dot 3 fluid, if i remeber correct, that is a LMA ( low moisture aborbtion).
the Vic Brit winter sale catalog ( WS.18) has a whole complete rebuild kit for the front for $99.. ( rotors, seals, hoses, pads, etc.. if you do not have one, call them ( 1-800-255-0088) as the sale expires 29 FEB 2000.. and no, i do NOT work for VB.. :o)
i would also replace the REAR hose at the same time, wether or not you do go stainless or rubber.. if the front ones are bad, i would presume the rear one would also be close... at least with all three replaced, that would be one thing less to worry about while motoring in your LBC...
good luck in whatever you decided to do
Don't forget the flex line to the clutch slave. If the hoses are all of the same vintage, the clutch line can't be far behind the brake lines.
H.
Just get the rubber. The ones on your car are probably the originals. As far as it giving you a harder peddle with stainless you will get that with new rubber ones. The rubber will last you another 20 years at least. If you flush your hydros like you are suppose to every year, not 3 yrs , they will last longer than that. I think the stainless is a waste of money. I agree that you should replace the rear one as well. As far as the clutch that could wait till you need to do your slave. That hose is no fun to put on.
Ya, I think your parts guy is right. The cost from Moss is $85 or so, while you can the rubber ones for under $40. If you go to a distributer like the BHive, etc., then the stainless ones might be more reasonable. But rubber hoses are original and they look original. Stainless hoses definitely do not. An expensive part liek that might actually reduce the value of the car from an originality stand-point, even though you may be gaining performance, as I've read they are a recommended competition item. I wonder if you could actually notice the difference in average conditions.
Yeah - replaced that and all cylinders 2 years ago.
Thanks
Don
