I find myseld needing to replace a section of the rigid metal brake line and have never done this before. Does anyone have tips or tricks to make the bending and fitting go well?

I have replaced many lines through my years and have always bought the straight lines off the shelf at the local auto parts store. Here is what I do:
1. Removing the old lines can be hard due to rust. let your solvent sit for awhile so you can remove them easier.
2. Measure your existing line by following the curves with a string. than measure the string to get the closest size to existing.
3. Take your old line with you to make sure you get the correct size ends. (sucks to bend your new line to find that they gave you a metric line)
4. I put a large pipe in my vise and bend the new line over it. You need to make sure you dont kink the line at all. Just start at one end and bend your new line following the same shape as the old. Take your time and enjoy.
Other opinions?
NAPA has new lines out that are called armor shield or something like that they are more forgiving than regular lines they bend easily with your hands and wont kink like regular lines.....almost no need for a tubeing bender at all and are supposed to last longer than regular lines. I have used them at work alot lately you can almost tie them in a loop with no kinks
You might want to check that the bubble flare ends are correct, unless you are using a union. Wish I had known about the armor shield lines - this was a real pita for me.
yea those lines are great they domonstrated them to us they guy litterally tied the line in a knot and then untied it didnt kink the line....ill never go back to useing the standard stainless lines again.
Thanks evryone. I was able to 'hand bend' them without any problems as I didn't have to do any really tight bends. Now that I have the new cyclinders, shoes, rubber lines and the one hard line that broke on me all installed. I'm almost ready to go.
The darn PDWA switch is the last thing I need to do. When I went to unplug the wire as it suggests in the Haynes manual, the switch pulled apart with little springs and discs everywhere. I guess it's one more trip to the candy store. Does this thing simply screw back in or does anything need to lined up in a certain configuration?
