Thanks,

In 2008 somebody on the forum did an MG calendar but it fell through for 2009. Not aware of anything for 2011. But over on the British Car Forum they're selling a British Car Calendar. I've got the 2010 version and it was well done. You just have to have a tolerance for non MG LBCs. It has a Midget, but no other MGs.

Should have looked a bit harder. Amazon; all MGs.
http://www.amazon.com/MG-2011-Wall-Calendar-30204-11/dp/1849810575/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1283946176&sr=1-3
Already bought and received my 2011 MG Calendar from the on-line retailer at the link below
http://www.discountcalendars.com/index.php?cPath=20_153
Its published by Avonside Publishing in England and features a great group of MGs. I already have the 2010 calendar by the same publisher and currently enjoying the September Car which is a red 1978 MGB.
Ron asked if anyone from this forum makes an MGB calendar. I remember someone doing this but can't remember who. Also, I don't believe it was dedicated to MGBs but had other MG's as well. I think it was all member photos that were used in the production.
Ron, if you do a Calendar that is dedicated to MGBs I will be interested in having one.
We had a member who did calendars years back that were absolutely gorgeous. Company name was Carriage house Productions, I think. I still have his that I have hanging in my shop just because the pictures were so good and sharp. The ones on Amazon are all right but I'd much having just MGBs and MGCs and perhaps MG Specials instead of the T's and cars that were never imported into the US

Can't find anything there. There's no Avonside listed.
It's the third calendar from the bottom $14.99 - Item # 30204-11 on the link
Its under the 2011 Wall Calendar Category - Cars/Motorcycles Subcategory
Ron - totally OT, but I have the unused ticket to Woodstock to go with your poster.
Didn't make the trip, was on guard duty at Ft Monmouth, NJ!
Wayne, I know it's OT...but do you remember where you purchased it? A few of us were going to go at the last moment, but they were searching all the young people at the border. We got scared and paranoid.. and so when I found the poster it just brought back those memories. Thanks for showing the ticket!
Ron
I actually have no idea how my dear, late wife got it for me. She found some somewhere, along with a letter of authenticity. Apparently the print shop found some after the event was over, and they were moving.
The letter says that the guy who did the actual printing verified that they were original.
An interesting piece of history, and to have been so close. Of course, I was wearing funny green clothes, and carrying an M-16, but still.......
Last year I tried to do the calendar with all member photos.
We had a bugger of a time getting good HIGH RESOLUTION photos.
Then there was the need of enough pre-sales to justify the press costs and seemed like no one was willing to pay the price which I think was about $12.50 plus postage.
Then people go out and spend $15 for the one on amazon, plus $4 to ship it.
Its a tough row to hoe.
Here's my offer for this year.
* Must sell 150 calendars.
* Calendars will be put in an envelope and mailed USPS to your address.
* Calendars will have 13 Full color photos, one for each month, plus the cover.
* Calendar is spiral bound.
* Each month will have world wide MG related show dates, events or historical MG anniversaries marked on the appropriate day, with contact information (if available).
* Calendar measures 10 7/8" W x 16" H when open.
* The back page of the calendar will be available to MG Experience Members who want to advertise their business like Chris, Hap, and Jeff who are in MG related businesses or others that might want to take part and advertise to the rest of us. These will likely be one line text ads at this time. Business name, screen name, business name location, phone, email.
* I'll set some sort of priority on that and maybe accept or ask a donation from them to help reduce the per calendar cost to the rest of us? Possibly selling some calendars in bulk for those guys to hand out to customers or sell at their counter. Maybe Moss will want a hundred. Who knows...
* The drop down ad tab will promote two drop ads which will be available if anyone wants to make an offer to advertise on them, I might buy one... again to drop the overall price of the calendars for all.
* We will all subsidize the shipping to people outside the USA.
* Calendar cost $20.50 each including postage.
This is a GROUP EFFORT!! Here is what I need from members to make this happen:
* Must sell a minimum of 150 calendars. More than that will reduce our individual cost.
* Prompt payment when the final price is established.
* HIGH RESOLUTION pictures, at first low res will do to make the picture decisions but if your pic is chosen I must have a 300 dpi image at full size (8x10) that means the picture must be AT LEAST 2400x3000 pixels! This pic must be copyright free, so you must certify that you own the rights!
* Correct event dates for 2011. No one wants to show up after a 200 mile run to an event that was 'last week.'
* Correct Historical dates for MG B anniversaries for the calendar grid, please do not guess.
* A sense of understanding, Your photo may not be used for any number of reasons, if your car does not appear it does not justify canceling your order...
* Photos MUST be of an MG B this will not be for other models.
* I can put almost anything in the calendar date boxes so if you think you would like something in there, Naomi's birthday, Drake's High School locker combination or Twigger's Blood Pressure average that's fine. i will charge $2 per insertion, again to bring the overall cost for everyone else down. I'll buy an entry on Dec 27, the anniversary of Joseph Lucas' death!
* Production time is about 6 weeks, so if we are going to do this and get them by Christmas we better get started.
* Correct Mailing Address because if you give it to me wrong the calendar will not be returned (bulk mail )and you will be bummed.
* IF this results in a profit I will send the appropriate amount to Skye to support the site.

This is not an MG calendar but you can see what it will look like:
Put me down for one, Michael. Let me know when you need payment. Do accept PayPal?
I've been lurking this thread since the beginning. I'm much more on board with an MGB calendar than I am with a general MG calendar. There has to be at least two RB cars too, no being prejudice against us late models! :I3:
Put me down for one, Michael. Let me know when you need payment. Do accept PayPal?"
I do not know how this will go down yet, I will probably host a purchase portal off-site to catalog requests like I do for my clients. If so I will put a link in a future post in this thread.
Skye's thoughts on this have not been voiced yet and after the recent advertising fracas I may have stepped out a little far on a limb.
I see this as the equivalent of the seat belt holder development thread, the MG cap thread, and the multiple T-shirt threads etc. All those were pre-fracas except the caps which were in-process at that time. Also at this time I am not a "paying member" which may affect things, I do not know.
I will remain in touch Ron and others.
I don't have a problem with this since I have no plans to make a calendar for 2011.
As long as the calendars are at-cost and there is no profit involved.
However, I'd prefer if it was organized in the Trader forum only, and the MGB board doesn't get cluttered with a bunch of posts about it going forward.
Thanks
Skye
I propose we keep it to this informational thread only and you can delete the thread when the calendars are delivered.
I will post something in the Trader as requested.
Dare I ask for a sticky for the next 36 days?
Only 36 days left!
Ok site is up.
Tell your friends via PM since we will be keeping only this thread for calendars.
Pre-order now, you will not be charged until October, I just need to get the magic 150 pre-orders to turn this into a go.

Sorry only 12 photos will appear in the calendar. Photos will be chosen by our art department based on composition clarity and quality of the photo. Barn Rustics are just as likely to appear as trailer queens. At least two months will feature Rubber Bumper Cars and at least two months will feature GTs as is appropriate to the reality of production.
Low Res is fine for now but you MUST have a high res version (2400 x 3000 pixels minimum) available.
Sending high resolution photos now improves your chance of placement.
Ah yes...

Please double check your dates because I rely on you to have confirmed them.
Thanks Michael! This works well for the whole MGExperience...never mind Amazon or anything else! Thank you Skye.
Ron
Michael, sounds good, I would make one suggestion however, this is the MG Experience, not the MGB Experience, so I would open it to all MG models represented here, that would include our MGA, MGC, Magnette, T series and Midget brothers, and I would think that would result in more potential sales as well to reach your goal of 150 units.
put me down for one. just finished ordering one from your link, and it was very easy to do. thank you for taking on this task for all of us to enjoy.
Hap,
I am not opposed to an MG calendar, however there is also a chorus saying they are only interested in Bs. It is one of those can't please everyone things. Perhaps we can do something different next year. I must have a bug free process this year and please everyone with quality and so on. Maybe some of the photos will have multiple models. Depends on the quality of the photos that come to my art department. I have a professional photographer who will look at them all during the layout sessions and toss anything that rubs him the wrong way composition-wise but I like groupings of cars. I also need short descriptions and explanations of the photos to include in the layout.
Personally I like the T-series almost as much as my RBB.
Michael,
Got your order, along with half a dozen total since 3 AM this morning, not bad for 9 hours! THANKS I hope this goes nice and smooth!
The email confirmation for someone's order bounced, (I have PM'd you.) Please make sure the correct info is in the order form, these will go out bulk rate mail, if your address is incorrect they will look really good on a Postmaster's wall somewhere in stead of yours!
I'll get on the pre-order list as well.
I would be more interested in an MGB calendar than an "all things MG" calendar. I personally have no interest in the T Series so I would not want potentially two photos (average when all models included) to be taken up by them. I do like the others, but I'd rather them all just be B's.
Depending on the cost of production and the popularity of the vehicle, perhaps it would be cost effective to make a calendar dedicated to each model and maybe one calendar which was a mash of them all.
As mentioned above, I am in for the MGB specific calendar. I may also be in for MGA and Midget specific calendars as well. Though, IMO, the cost is a little on the high side to purchase 2 or 3.
$2 a line is confusing. Is that total cost or total per calender cost? How long is a line...as in characters? [quote]
Total Cost Robert!
$2 gets you a line of text in the directory, $4 gets you a second line just below that. Approximate size is 5" wide so figure 150 characters
"Kirks-auto Refitters - Moss Dealer - Davenport Iowa - New, NOS and Reconditioned Parts for Classic Imports - screen name kirks-auto - 563-323-1017" is 149 and would fit on one line, for $2 printed on every calendar ordered, in the hands of 150 or more owners of MGBs actively running or being restored.
Leave it to Jack to ask what I didn't already cover!
Good questions Jack, I am copying this into the thread from our PMs to help answer other people's questions.
[quote=twigworker]
I think that it is a fine idea and I think that I am in for at least one calendar and perhaps an ad.
Hold my hand here. I looked at the specimen ad on your site and don't understand what the actual calendar would look like. "
Here is a better picture of what the cover would look like. Sorry it is not an MG. Below it is a pic of a calendar opened up. Remember the size is a full size display wall calendar, 10 7/8" x 18 including the drop tab. It is just like a regular wall calendar. Spiral wire bound. Measures almost 11 by 16 when open on the wall. Top photo, bottom is an "appointment calendar pad." The date boxes are about 1.75" wide by 1.5" tall. You can fit about 35 characters and spaces per line in the little boxes, no more than 5 lines of text per date. I can also put photos in the boxes but I haven't figured out the price for that yet. Won't be much though, look at the other ad pricing!

Where would the ad spaces appear?"
Line ads are on the back inner cover. They are $2 per line. I just added ad prices separate from calendar purchases. So now you can pick up an ad separatly so you can come back and add another date line again and again without having to purchase yet another calendar. Line adds will appear as a directory, alphabetized rather than categorized; so the first word will determine where you end up. Jackscars will appear higher in the list than Twigster. "Distributors by Jeff" would appear above "Jeff's Distributors" and so on.
Outer cover will be available for additional space if necessary, same pricing.
What printed size would they be? "
The drop tab ads are three ads visible all year. They hang down from the calendar as a bottom ad this is the afrea which usually has a company name on it in the calendars your insurance company sends out. I have decided to split the tab in three sections. Skye does not want to brand the calendar MGE which I had planned on doing so i am taking one of the three tabs. These can have graphics or logos on them.they are roughly 2 x 3 so just smaller than a business card and cost $20.
The text in the little boxes on the calendar pad is pretty small, look at any wall calendar and you will see that the font is likely 10 points. This pic shows the boxes and why there are only 5 lines available in the boxes. if you want to buy the entire box of text I can put a graphic in there instead of the lines. You must meet art requirements for the graphic but it will be $10 and (almost) anything goes.
Would the text line(s) be separate from the photo? "
Yes. Text line ads will appear on the back inner cover of the calendar so you can flip up the calendar pad to the end and look up the number for "Jackscars" or whomever. I think you are referring to Date Box Lines which will be in the body of the calendar pad, where all the little boxes are. The BIG photo at the top may have text in the photo but only to identify the year, model, color and general description of the car. As an aside; I am about to offer mini car photos inside the calendar pad. This will allow anyone to have THEIR car on a calendar even if it is only a 1 inch picture. This way you HAVE bragging rights "I am a calendar model" and lower resolution pictures can be used (minimum is 360 x 175 pixels) pricing to be determined. It allows a lower resolution picture to be printed but I have to limit the quantity in order to make sure the calendar remains functional.
Off the top of my head I am thinking something like the pic of me sitting in my old B with test similar to what appears on http://www.jackscars.net/. If the physical proportions of that photo won't work then I might just use the photo of the old hippie burn-out."
Your first suggestion would likely not end up as a full size photo of the month because there is no background to the picture, but it might look nice printed in the little date box on your birthday at about 1 1/4 inch. As for the Hippie Burnout photo, again not as the car photo of the month but maybe you want it to mark the day you first drove an MG... You do remember when that was, don't you? Mine was October 8.
So once again here is the rundown:
Directory Listing, $2 per line, inside back cover.
Date Box Lines, $2 per line, 35 characters per line, 5 lines per date max.
Drop Tab Ad, 2 available, $20, Roughly 2"H x 3"W logos are OK.
Mini Car Pics in the BODY of the Calendar, $5, Photo must meet graphic requirements (not hard to do), Select Month.
Calendars, $20.50 each, MAILED BULK MAIL to your address in time for Christmas in US and Canada, international arranged on per situation basis.

I'll get on the pre-order list as well.

Thanks Jeff...
If the interest in the ads goes over well it will affect the cost of the calendars downwards which is why i am taking names but not charging for anything yet I hope the cost per calendar will decrease as time goes on. If we hit 150 calendars and no one places an ad we are at $20.50. If the potential 1800 $2 ads ALL get bought (highly unlikely) and sell 150 calendars, the cost per calendar sold would be zero, Skye would get a check and advertisers would get a calendar. Stay tuned.
