Just bought an 85 camaro 2.8 and 5 speed going in my 78 mgb.Would appreciate
any thoughts on the best combination of carb, intake and cam.
Looking for quick acceleration rather than top end.
Thanks in advance for any help

I used a S10 intake manifold, cut out the middle, made a 3/8 inch thick adaptor plate, installed a circle track quick responce 350 cfm 2 brl. Holley, mounted sideways to make the stock mgb gas and choke cables hook up, installed a low profile air cleaner and all fits under the hood. Also used a mild crane cam.The car is very quick threw the gears and plenty of torque.

Here are a couple more pics of Jim's intake that he sent me awhile back.

Jim - I have the same engine/trans combo as Andy to put in mine. I've read a lot about the gear ratios in the V6 trans making 1st gear basically useless. Which trans are you using and is that the case? Steve

Edelbrock Torquer with the top shortened. Bill Guzman is making shortened top sections now for the intake. Here is mine:

Steve, I used a t5/v6 tranny ( bought it for $50 )1st is low but not that bad.If you can find a t5/v8 tranny ,1st is better, but you are going to pay alot more. Jim

I've seen Jim's car and that is a real nice setup. I may at a later date redo mine and use that. It works well, fits under the hood and S10 manifolds are readlly available.

Jim, did you end up selling your car on ebay? Goto anybody on this forum?

Yes I sold it on ebay for $7500, now lives in Chicago. If my new knee lets me use the clutch, I will do another ( maybe a v8 ). I will still gladly help anyone out with thier v6 conversion.

Jim, I saw your photos on what you did with your intake on earlier posts. What year intake did you use. I like the idea & would like to do the same. My intake is a little different & am wondering if it will work the same. I love the look of your engine bay.

Bill, Is the intake top avavilable on your web site?

Yes, it will soon, hope in the next week will be available.

The best combo with the 390 cfm carb is a crane cam #253941 This cam has 454 lift Intake, 480 Exhust with stock ratio rockers with 1.6 rockers its has 484 I and 512 ex. if 1.6 rockers are used, make sure the spring will not bind on the Ex.
The duration is 272 I and 284 Ex

Prefer choice for the 2.8 would be the cam that is used in the 3.4 crate engine.
It makes power from low rpm to 5500. It will have a litle rough idle in the 2.8 It must use dual exhaust.

As for manifold the the Edelbrock with a 4v top and a 4 hole 1/2 phelonic spacer.
and with about 36 to 41 degrees total timing at 2800 to 3500.
