someone in the last month or two mentioned testing an overdrive using a angle grinder or a sander or somthing. i can't seem to find the thread--i did search, i promise. can some body tell me how or where the thread is. i just took delivery of a fully assemble od tranny and i need to test it out.

Do a search on "Overdrive Drill" for all dates. Lot's of results.

I just tested mine after rebuilding it....

I used a heavy duty drill with an adapter that clamped the input shaft of the tranny, and fit into the chuck of the drill....

i found that it needed to spin close to 900 rpm for the OD to pump enough pressure to engage.

good luck

It was my OD. I used the 7inch grinder/polisher with 2 speeds. A reinforced hose fit on the grinder spindle and the input shaft on the od. I could start off in slow and switch to high and watch it spin...... I hooked a speedometer to it and monitored the od operation..

While that may work to do a basic test there is no guarantee that its a good unit. I have one sitting on the floor(just removed) that will go in and out of O/D just fine in the car. The problem is mine will slip while out of overdrive in first and 2nd gear. I hope your experience with overdrives ends up being better than mine. 5 hours later I have a standard box in the car and working fine. Bob
