Do you really need suspension on a tandem axle car trailer? Mostly highway travel and car not more than 1000Kilos.

200mph

No, the car's suspension can perform that function IF...

You tie down the wheels and tires to the trailer, NOT the body, frame or suspension.

However, your race car and your tow vehicle occupants will appreciate the much smoother ride of a suspension trailer!

sorry, I missed the "tandem acle" part of the post. My comment referred to a single axle trailer.

You might just as well have a single axle. A tandem w/o suspension will ride on one or the other axle depending on tow car hitch height and will seldom use both axles at the same time. Ask me how I know.

x2 to what Dave said. I have a 10' tandem that fits my B really well. It rode on the front two wheels mainly. When I was towing it in the rain through Durham, NC, It started swaying and would not pull out. The sway locked the wheels up and it was going from right to left to violently that I could see the whole side of the car in each mirror.

Scary. My wife and two kids were in there. I have sway control now on my big trailer and hope never to experience that again. I can still hear the screaching in my head.

I pull trailers ALL the time. Build athletic fields. Tractors, skid steers, back-ops, track-os, etc.

The MOST important thing to remember. If your trailer starts the side to side wobble.....do NOT slow down.

Speed up. You'll PULL the trailer to the speed of the truck. It will come true to the toe vehicle. The slow down...easy.

The stablizers do the trick with hauling the small weight of these car's.

But if your ever hauling....it gets to wobbling....speed up....you'll pull the wobbly out of your trailer.

Thanks Fieldbuilder, you beat me to it!

Counterintuitive, yes, but dont do it, dont hit that brake pedal. Use the tall one it's the only pedal that can help you if your trailers waggin side 2 side.

Yes, pulling out of it saved the family and the car. The stabilizers are amazing. I had them installed the same weekend as this incident. I was driving home at 80 mph verses the 55 mph earlier with no issues.

I have to say that the scariest moment I have had was not on track, but then :drinking:

My dad racing car trailer was a tandem axle, but he dropped it back to one as the front set of tyres were scrubing out quickly as there was a slight miss alignment of the two axles. Its also easier to push around the shed with one axle.
