I've had my MG running but it is really running bad and my guru (father-in-law) thinks I should clean the carbs out. I would like to replace the needle and my VB catalog requires the carb#. My needle looks like #7 but the catalog says I need #8.
Could you help me please find the carb number? Thanks alot.

It should be stamped on a small aluminum tag that's held in place with one of the float bowl cover screws. There should be one on the front and one on the rear. What year make and model car requires a #8?

A '69 with AUD 326 would have had AAE as standard. It would be really rare that the jet needles were so bad as to create a "bad" running condition. They may not be optimal, but you could adjust for a decent idle.

Before you touch the carbs look for vacuum leaks. The carbs seldom need attention.
Explore for leaks first and check out the dizzy carefully first. Then do it again.

Finding the carb number may only lead you further astray, as Jimmy mentioned AAE are stock for your carbs which is a biased or spring needle, but who's to say someone hasn't changed your carbs out to the the earlier fixed needle carbs or even converted your biased needle carbs to fixed needle carb with the fixed needle adapters, the number 7 needle you are talking of is two steps richer than stock, the fixed needle MGB stock needle is #5. I suggest you forget calling VB, and call someone who actually knows what they are talking about and order from them, like Joe Curto. <http://www.joecurto.com>
