Is the gasket supposed to cover those holes? or be cut out for them?
Also, the screws on the butterfly's are REALLY soft... and won't budge. Any tips/tricks on how to get them out? Drill them? Where to get new screws?
Thanks

The holes you point out need to be open to the atomsphere, cover them and you will have problems. As for the butterfly screws, there is no need to replace them so just leave them alone. If you are absoutly determined to remove them, be sure that you grind off the backside before you try to unscrew them. When they were installed, they aredeformed on the backside to keep them from vibrating out. The origionals had the ends split so the two halves were spread out to lock the screws in place
BTW, the fact that your car has been abused by someone does not make it a POS in my eyes. It does make the abuser a POS, however. I personaly do not appreciate the POS term being used for anything on this BBS, especialy our beloved British cars
It ain't "Positive Outlook Situation" , Means in derogitory terms, Piece of Sh!t. Jeff
gerry is right about the screws.unless you insist on removing them leave them.if you do remove them you WILL need new ones.the new screws will have to be what is c~~~ed staked when replaced.just think what would happen if one came loose and went into the engine. to stake them use a chisel and tap it then turn it 1/4 and tap again.you just want to spred it to keep it in. OHHHH , Sorry, couldnt figure it out the last couple of days!
And often when you do get them out, you end up destroying the throtle shaft threads as well. Best leave them alone
ok, no more pos... I agree that the po may have been less than dedicated to make it run.. it only had to putt down some dirt roads where he was. As for me wanting to call it a pos, if I had a new H1 or Ferrari and it was having a gremlin, I'd call that $100,000+ car a pos too ;)
edit**
I just looked at the holes again. Those are the side of the carb that go to the spacer blocks at the intake. The spacer blocks are solid without holes to match up to the holes on the back side of the carb. So, a gasket that's solid on that side, shouldn't make any difference, unless it's supposed to be slotted between those two holes, correct?

It's been a while since I had HIFs off, but I think those should be covered. There ARE holes on the air filter side that should NOT be covered -- the gasket should have holes that align, as should the air filter base plates.
yeah, the air filter side has holes which are not covered. Although, all this testing is without the filters even on. Oh well, back to the drawing board
Yep, I'm on the wrong side of the carb. The holes on the airfilter side have to be open, not those on the manifold side. Now that I think about, I don't remember seeing extra holes on the manifold side of my HIFs
I'm so confused.
Jim K... are you sure you're seeing them as the back sides of the carbs?
Sorry - if it's the back side, it shouldn't matter - thought I was looking at the air cleaner side.
This car will run for you, and you'll be all the wiser when you get it buffed out.
lol, oh yes... it shall run... it shall run far... though with my luck, I will be thrown from the vehicle and it will run faster and farther than I will be able to keep up... DOH!
