There is a glue made for the job. I get mine from a supplier that deals in car interior supplies. Check with your local uphoustery shop.
I have used contact cement on 2 different carpet jobs. I am always amazed how much glue an interior job goes through - I start with one "medium" sized can and end up going back to hardware store 4 more times.
Obviously, check fit before you apply glue. Even the pre-cut fitted kits require SIGNIFICANT trimiing.
I did mine with one can of 3M spray adhesive from an auto parts store. It doesn't take much to stick like Gangbusters if you get an even coat on both surfaces.
I used a spray product from NAPA auto parts. Don't have specific name -it's at the shop. good stuff. I would recommend you don't glue the entire surface to allow for expansion and contraction with humidity. contact it just in a few key locations to hold it in place. the carpet will contour itself quite nicely over time. if its moving on you you can always add another quick shot of adhesive if necessary.
