Anybody have any experience with the castor correction kit that Moss is selling? An interesting idea in theory, Iwas just wondering how it worked in practice.

Regards John

There is another less pricey source, but I'm not at home where the info is stashed. I'll update later this afternoon.

John Targett, distributor for real Minilite's, has a kit of his own design that lowers the castor angle from 7 degrees to 4 for easier steering effort. The old paper catalog (the mgparts.us website was lost when the server was high-jacked) quotes $50 for the kit, but those were 09/07 prices, so I expect they've had to go up, but I doubt anywhere near Moss's price! I've asked John to give me a shout when he has a minute (he's just now getting back from a business trip to Europe for Minilite), partly to get a new price and order some kits. His email is jbritcars[at]aol.com (@ removed to keep spammers from glomming on).

I don't know how this works, but let me guess. When the castor angle is zero (think of actual castors under a table), the castor is not inclined (and I do use that term advisedly) to go any particular direction. Give it an angle between the street and the table, though, and it wants to go a certain direction. The more angle, the more it wants to go that way. Which is why an MGB, with a relatively big castor angle (for a car) likes to track straight on down the road, and you have to convince it to do otherwise.

Then again, I was an English major, so who knows?

Its a great idea, I've got some for my MGB, they came from Frontline Costello in the UK, they sold the design to Moss. Not got round to fitting them yet....

Remember, when you lower the caster you decrease the inherent stability of the front end and the car will have a tendency to wander, especially if it is worn somewhat.

The only thing a little different with the lower caster, mine is 5 degrees, is that the steering wheel does not return to center as readily as it did with 7 degrees. Steering effort is less though.
