MGB: Celebrating British Cr Week

Well, since I can't be driving for British Car Week, I'm working instead! Got quite a bit done to the project car today - finally got those difficult front parking lights off (seriously rusted screws), removed the windshield, the wiper motor and accessories and some miscellaneous bits of body trim. Also started to remove the inner door workings (windows, latches, etc.) but decided to stop when the window fell back into it's track in pinched my finder in the regulator mechanism.... Gotta go back and read the instructions on that, getting those windfows out is a chore. I think maybe I undid a bolt too many.

At this point, all I really have left is the wiring harness, the door stuff and the engine/transmission, and I'll have a rolling chassis! Now time to start looking around for a body shop, I guess.

Mine is parked until Wed or Thursday, as that Bosch alternator conversion I was bragging about in March crapped out last Friday. Lifetime warranty, but it is a special order..

Coming apart is the easy part. Bag and label everything, small bags. The reassembly one worries about grabbing new paint with stuff. And there is a reason for the worry.

No, I only buy paint and cleaner junk from AZ, this wash a local parts house, been in business years. Guy said it was very rare he has seen this, of course. Rear bearing went out..made quite a noise.

Sorry, The perormance seemed familiar and the warranty made me think it was them.

Another forecast of rain, all week, for us again. I had one day of "top down" driving on Saturday and then got wet before the afternoon was over. Is is possible we might exceed the 40 days and 40 nights on the east coast? This is our 6th straight week of rain and even the mighty oak trees are bending over because their roots have nothing to cling to. As I type this I'm watching the weather on the news and just saw that Richmond received over 7 inches of rainfall yesterday. Hope everyone else is having better weather to enjoy their MGs.

MONDAY: No rain in sight when I walked out onto the porch, weather report calls for clear day...rather cool drive in this morn with top down but an enjoyable drive anyway....got behind a couple of 18-wheelers hauling lumber down 2-lane Maysville Road...fun zipping around them on that curvey road! caught them off-guard.....got a few waves while zipping down Winchester Road...I'll incorporate the car & 'Drive Your British Car Week' into my classes today...school's almost over!

It's actually NOT RAINING at the moment . . . Just cold and cloudy, but I'll take it. The car is going every where with me this week, anyway. But it sure doesn't look like any top-downing this week...

Chris - yup, going through a LOT of baggies..... I'm finding the 'taking apart' to be a lot of fun, actually.... Very theraputic. I am also taking lots of digital pix for future reference. What I think is neat is that the more I take apart, the more I realize that this car, for the most part, is unmolested from it's assembly back in October of 1964... That's pretty cool.

I am getting worried about poutting it back together, from the standpoint of having to keep my kids out of the garage for the time it takes, to avoid bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc., from scratching it all up!

Dan D - easily satisfied in NJ
