I just got back my header and manifold from being ceramic coated by a local guy here in S. Florida, and I can't believe the difference.

I found the guy on another board (not MG), and after talking to him for a while about his process, I sent him my stuff and I am impressed.

He coats the inside as well as the outside of the stuff with a coating that is resistant to 2K degrees. I was kind of skeptical of this, but I had a look at his car which has the same coating, and I was able to put my hand on the exhaust manifold with the car running.

The coating he put on can be polished, as he did with my stuff.

I have posted a pic of before and after to give you an idea of how good it looks.

I forgot, if anyone is interested, his website is www.braincoating.com.

I like it.
Would like to do that to my header.

Need to see if I can find someone local that does that.
Is the 2K available in different colors?

He has a couple of colors available, I was going to go with black, but after seeing the silver he did, I chose that instead.

He did both my header and cast manifold for $225. Not a bad deal, since I didn't have to ship it. He took about a week or so to do it, but since it is not his day job, I didn't have any issue with the time. The last time I had stuff coated, it took three weeks to get a bunch of small pieces done.

Ron-

Just got my headers back a few weeks ago and the guy told me that the silver ceramic coating is resiliant to 1300 degrees F and the black coating was good to 2000. He said unless you're racing something hot you shouldn't need the hot stuff. It cost me $165 for the job.

FWIW,

I was not so concerned with how high the temp would be good for, but mostly how much it could reduce heat under the hood. The guy has a TBird with a 4.6, and like I said above, I could put my hand on the manifold while the engine was running.

I thought this was pretty impressive, as I could get my hand nowhere near my manifold on the B after a long drive.

He is going to work on the pipes that run under the driver once I get things where I need them to be. Hopefully this will relieve some of the baking that goes on while driving the car.

I had my Peco done the same way and have the same opinion about it. It is truly amazing how much cooler the cockpit stays with this set-up. The header probably will last a real long time because the metal never gets very hot due to the interior coating. It probably will also stay warp free.

I have the headers coated on my 3.5.

Much cooler in the engine bay.

One thing to remember, the heat has to go some where, and on mine the down pipes and front silencers got much hotter. I had to insulate the floor panels with Dynamat.
